As things in Ashinara were slowly but gradually improving - the island of Eyrie was well on it's way to getting rebuilt after the natural disaster it recently endured, new education reforms were slowly beginning to kick in, and the development aid promised by Gaelia by Ashinara's joining of SATO beginning to arrive, so was the year coming to a close. With only two months left before the celebration of the New Year - or the New Sun, as Ashinarans traditionally referred to it, their mythology describing that each year the Sun Spirit is born anew - almost like a serpent shedding it's old scales - the Queen though to mark the end of this year and the beginning of 1934 with a brand new tradition - which would also bring much needed new revenue for the nation's coffers, along with bringing Ashinara to greater prominence on the world stage. Ashinara would begin hosting regattas. But first, the Queen decided to test it out on a smaller scale before bringing it international.
Invitations to the most prominent sailors in Ashinara - mostly civilians, as the military has long since stopped using sail boats in favor of steam-powered ships - that a regatta would take place to compliment the New Sun Festival at the end of the year. The race would be limited to 3-man crew single mast yachts, with the route starting in Kyograd, sailing around the Ashinaran isles to the South, with checkpoint stops - to ensure that the contestants didn't cheat by just hanging out in open sea out of sight for a little while and returning to Kyograd where the finish would also be - in the rebuilding Eyrie - with hopes that the audience attraction would also bring in some extra cash for Eyrie's rebuilding - then around the West side to the North with a stop in Ovidopol - before heading East and South, back into Kyograd.
