The Southern Pass, Spring 1935 Winter was brutal. Galra struggled to supply many of its base camps going into the mountain range let alone make a dent in the Nevarran line. Many of the men were tired and resentful of the entire situation, fighting had become a long and difficult game of sharpshooting across the Southern pass and other regions of the mountain. Locals didn't seem to be entirely friendly to the Imperial State which had now brought down the Inquisitors. They were slowly sweeping across the Galran towns and interrogating and even sending off some of the local flavor. "We have failed to uphold our god's plan, because you have sinned against the state." Some were forced to cross the no man's land wearing grenades and ordered to detonate least their family, especially children, be next. But Galra had a weapon being built just for the mountain, one they felt confident in crushing the Nevarrans. An airship, equipped with 20mm guns and other mounted machine guns. This massive helium armored airship would provide close air support where aircraft couldn't and rain down hell on the Nevarrans. It would take another season, but the Galrans were damn determined to break across the mountains and force Nevarra to pull troops from the stagnating Veraki front. Galra's planned airship

On days where the southern pass was obscured whether through fog or the overcast weather, explosions would sound from the penitent forced to walk the sodden and wired terrain. Through the shadow play, Nevarran soldiers when opportune would use a decoy explosive loud enough for the Galran side to hear and for those who wanted to live another day, were ushered to the Nevarran line and diffused from their combustive fate. Of course, not everyone could be saved, and the inquisitor's instillment of fear often overwrought any sense of self-preservation. For every one saved, three more out of fury or fear chose a fate shrouded in shrapnel.
With a secured front in the southern pass and a changing of the season, Nevarrans could move heavier equipment to reinforce their lines. The width of the no man's land expanded as Nevarran artillery became active and began to thunder across the valley like a deafening chorus. Though the two were currently in a gridlock, it did not mean the two were silent. Though while Nevarra exchanged shells with Galra and showed signs where the focused seemed on hunkering down and settling in, the truth was that mounted reconnaissance scourged the valley in an attempt to find passes or routes to slip in behind Galran lines, using the artillery to direct focus. Outposts were being established in more remote areas of the pass with the aim often being a focus on having visibility and providing consistent reports of activity from both sides to relay for Nevarran command.
For now they simply continued to fortify and wait for another opening. To aid in this effort, General Bill Moore and his Marrish contingency would be ushered to the southern pass and given a situation report on what has transpired thus far. There were talks about directing Marrish aid to the Veraki front but so far the conflict in the south had grown stale with such a wide front on Nevarra's border while also fending off the Dirians. This decision was also made due to a variety of factors such as location, supply, and also in favor of interests in Marrish-Nevarran R&D regarding recent Galran acquisitions in the region.

Several months had passed since Galra entered the mountain range to cross into Nevarra.
The soldiers here found themselves in a never ending day in day out fight with not only the Nevarrans but the mountain itself. Scouts were sent to find alternative routes across, some didn't return, supplies were coming up smoothly with inquisitors hunting down mountain folk who helped the Nevarrans. The high command of Galra weren't interested in sending more troops to the front given their successes in Koi many believed the war would end soon with Nevarra surrendering with the rest of the CN and Ouhiri.
Offensive operations seemed to cease with Galra simply now holding to what they had and firing artillery shells at the Nevarrans on the other side.

With the arrival of Marrish support, General Moore would follow the Nevarran's direction and begin an assault rile them up, and further keep their attention away from Nevarran recon operations. Firing off a heavy salvo before sending small contingents of infantry and armor through the winding trails and passes. The high torque and squat stature of the "Slug's" made them ideal for the environment they had found themselves in, but the valley opened up a much more familiar combat environment for the Marrish forces, and soon Moore returned to his element. Artillery echoed off the mountains walling the pass in as a mixed smoke and HE barrage preluded an already on the way Marrish assault. Siege Mortars shelled the trench line to inflict as many infantry casualties as possible, while the Howitzers and Field Guns targeted known heavy emplacements and positions. The battle line advanced as a healthy mix of armor and infantry moved on the Galran lines, the first of the MAF to have the honor of directly fighting and killing the Galrans responsible for this catastrophic war. Their blood boiled in the heat of the desert. A Marrish lieutenant yelled at her platoon from the engine deck of a TMJ-32, "Stay behind the slugs chums! We need the cover to get closer!" While not heavily armored, the slugs still afforded the infantry decent protection against machine gun fire and lighter AT weaponry. The Slugs opened up with HE and machine gun fire as the approached, armored cars peppered the lines with .50 cal fire. Marrish Forces:12,000 Standard Infantry 5,000 Heavy Infantry 3,000 Special Infantry (1,000 Beast Hunters, 2,000 Marines) 140 Siege Mortars 200 Field Artillery 100 Howitzer Artillery 70 Armored Cars 60 Tankettes (TMJ-32)

Taking into account Galra's decline in offensive activity, Nevarra pushed to keep them agitated while still relying and coordinating with Moore's efforts using long-range assaults on Galran positions. A new offensive was being planned but still required further reconnaissance under the cover of Marrish assault. Remembering the great push from Operation Hydra reminded Nevarran Command that so long as the "body" remains intact that Galra will continue to generate a presence in the Southern Pass. Because of this, Nevarran sights turned to primary base situated at the heart of the Galran annex in the valley. The previously mentioned reconnaissance efforts came with attempting to find ways to maneuver through Galran lines or to find some sort of crack/wedge that a concentrated assault effort could exploit to keep pushing the legions back closer and closer to their heart.

Galra threw everything it had in the pass at Nevarra and now Marrlan. Tearing mountain rock from the sides of tall mountains that stood for thousands of years in mere seconds as Galran infantry pushed to the brink found anger and desperation to be their friend in the brutal mountain front.
High caliber artillery rounds obliterating everything before several feral Galran soldiers pushed following what cover could be found to push against the CN assault. For the common soldier, it was the hell that would release them into heaven and duty fulfilled. For high command it was to buy time before project behemoth was released on the CN.

Casualties cannot be posted until I have an accurate number of Marrish in the area. Please post your numbers in the war threads going forward.
