The other Elenrians joined him at the sitting room, leaning against the chairs or seating themselves on the floor when no more seats were available. Mathew's greeter found a spot at a nearby chair, lighting another lamp at the center of the room, illuminating their faces. They were mostly Crown, but a couple wore corsets and what appeared to be some kind of ceremonial neckpiece, also missing the typical facial pigments- Greatferns.
They chuckled at his joke, one responding, "We are called the Encore, after all- can't be embarrassing ourselves. Have to practice with dummies, even if they can't give us applause."

Matthew chuckled at the Elenrian's joke, "Good one. I'm sure they give better applause than the territorials do. But tell me, what's the situation on the ground like out here? Briefings from the GA can only do so much."

"Where to start- we have a hundred things happening and it feels like nothing is in our favor. Is there anything specific you'd like to know- though keep in mind we haven't got all the information. We're just a local chapter and information travels about as fast as a snail when our couriers have to wade through a bog of muddy snow to deliver information to the next village. If you're referring to demonstrations... well, news is that one in Pactstei got mowed down by armored cars. We've also seen many of our leaders arrested at a local meeting by the police near the west- thirty of our Greatfern chapter leaders are in work camps."

"That's horribly perfect, I'm afraid," Matthew sighed, "If the world were to see innocent protestors mowed down by armored car, well, that would certainly make them take another look at what Kumosenkan's doing over here. Especially Amali and Galia, hopefully. I'd like to get shots of those work camps, too, but I don't know the feasibility of that. Something tells me it'd be harder to sneak into a work camp than just take a few shots at a protest."

One of the Greatferns in the back murmured something in a different dialect, a few sentences bouncing between the Elenrians before someone translated to Elerian for Matthew. "Yaika said he doesn't know so much about innocent. Crowd got restless and someone started shooting at the Territorials. Turned into a brawl, I think?" they turned back to verify with the Greatfern. "In any case, you're right about the camps- places are locked down by Kumo troops.
"Not sure what showing off to the world would do, though. Kumosenkan keeps a tight lid on things- they'll call it foreign propaganda and move on. That being said, you'll be bored for a while- we're not protesting here. If the police see us gather in even small numbers when they're understaffed they'll call the Patroller garrisons and we'll get dragged off to heaven knows where instead of a, ah... complementary beatdown. We'll wait until one of the demonstrations in the big cities are gonna happen, then we'll bring you along for your photo shots. Does that sound good?"

"Yeah, that plan sounds good to me. But back to the topic of protestors. The world will hear that these are peaceful protests, regardless of if they are or not. I'd like it to be the truth, but the plan is that the photos I take should make everyone doubt Kumo's story enough to think they're lying. With all I plan to take, it'd be one hell of a staging process just for some 'foreign propaganda,'" Matthew chuckled, "Well, I guess it would be 'foreign propaganda,' but it wouldn't be staged."

"I suppose that's fair." The other Elenrians murmured in agreement, though more than a few looked uncomfortable. "We'll do what we can... someone will go and talk to the big meeting tomorrow in Kelstun- we'll figure something out and arrange your travel there... wherever it'll be. In any case, you should be able to start here in the village- not hard to get a few good shots already. There's always going to be some sod who gets beaten and jailed because they can't pay rent."
He leaned up, nodding towards Matthew. "In any case, consider it taken care of. We don't have a ton to eat, but let us know if you're hungry- we'll make sure you don't starve like the poor idiots fighting in the west."

"Thanks," Matthew said, "I know how hard it is for you to get food, and with any luck, I can make that a bit easier on you, eventually. I don't think I'll take any shot today, though, I've had enough slinking around police for one day."
