Slowly Tomori rose from her sitting position. She ambled over towards the two Eulen, she held up the ID next to the new Eulen's face. "This certainly looks like her." She held her finger, drawing similarities from the ID to the person. "Her plumage looks the same. She even has the same scar between her eyes." She held the ID out for Sophie to look at. "Is this yours?"

With a glare of pure disdain for the minister, Sophie growled. "That's not mine. You had it made after you arrested me to incriminate me."

"I," Sophie took a moment to think, and then threw a shameful look at Isalie. "I was embezzling funds from the Embassy. But I recently changed my mind, so I went to get all the money I stole to return it."

"That's very convenient," Tomori responded simply. "Then why did the sailor who helped arrest you say you offered her a hundred thousand yairen for classified information?"

"That sailor was completely drunk!" Sophie shouted. "I asked her for directions home and she assaulted me!"
With an idea, Isalie smiled. "The 'evidence' you have against my subordinate is shaky at best. And it will not stand up to the standards of the international community when we publicize that you arrested her under such shaky terms. You have no evidence that she had that ID before you arrested her, that money is the rightful property of the Zarich Embassy, and your only witness to the supposed attempt at espionage was a sailor who had more coffee in her veins than blood! Release Sophie Fürer to my custody at once. You will never have to deal with her again once you do."

That was a fair point, Tomori thought to herself. The perception of Kumosenkan on the world stage wasn't an outstanding one. The imprisonment of Sophie Fürer, though justified, could turn into a massive international snafu. "You've made a fair argument, save for the fact that we would have no motive for randomly imprisoning a diplomat to our empire."

"No." She shook her head. "We could be convinced to overlook your blatant espionage of our technologies in return for Zarich weighting its academic prowess behind a few projects the Empress has a desire for."
