The Kiithids and Clans of the Kithium League
Inside of the Kithium League and by extension as well larger Kithium society within Roskana, though primarily now expressed in the League, Clans and Kiithid represent similar social organizations, but they are not necessarily the same.
The differences between a Kiithid, and a Clan, are thus.
Clans, are a primarily ideological organization, of which often do not have strong hereditary bonds, or may have none at all, instead being organized primarily based around a willful choice to enter into the Clan or being invited in by a ruling family or a Clan'Sa. Clans do have long-lasting family groups in them more often than not, but these family groups have largely only a social status and do not possess authority. Clans are generally thus, more meritocratic in their nature out of necessity. These clans may have overtly ideological goals (The Cult of Mars may fit under this), or they have a more distinct goal or fixation. In the case of Clan Gaalsian, ruling Clan of the League, their overall operative goal is to maintain power over the smaller Clans and Kiithids. But these as well can be business focused ventures, military ones, or simply religious ones. These institutions often require the suppression of a familial last name in public, but this isn't always the case.
Kiithids, are however primarily smaller familial organizations. They are ruled by a strong ruling family, of which as well has subordinate families with varying levels of power and authority. These are tighter knit organizations that are often fixated on narrower goals and operative goals. This includes often the expansion of a Kiithid into controlling particular sectors of a economy, industries, attaining unrivaled expertise in a field of study, etc. These institutions as well enforce the use of the Kiithid's name as a Public last name, though they do not suppress familial last names in private. Kiithid are as well semi-strict on marriage opportunities and may keep marriage within the scope of the Kiithid itself, or within 'associated' Kiithid or clans, effectively for political advantage to strengthen ties with other Kiithids or Clans.
Kiithids and Clans are segmented into 'Strata', of which they belong.
Clans and Kiithids are organized into three particular Strata.
High Strata, the controlling Kiithids and Clans that possess the majority of governmental power and a monopoly on the use of force to keep other Kiithids and Clans in line.
Midliner Strata, the Kiithids and Clans that often directly work for the High Kiiths. They are typically skilled workers, make more money on average than the Lower Strata, and may be considered a sort of middle-class.
Lower Strata, blue collar workers, miners, etc. of which make up the majority of Kithium clans and Kiithid.
Kithium are not locked into Strata, and some institutions within the League do not recognize Strata, as well government can be entered by lower and Midliner Strata. This has often led to issues within the higher echelons of these entities however, creating a clashing culture of integration that is often at odds with the governmental structure of the nation itself, to which has been constantly reformed even before the first war with the UST.
