Ancient but certainly not a stagnant organization, the Luosen Workshop is operated by the Fasong Community of the Pelkia Southeastern Urban Region, whose members originally founded the workshop for the production of matchlock arquebus for the Sanshan military. The very first specialized firearm workshop in the crumbling Sanshan Empire, it was forced to evacuate its second workshop only a year after construction finished in the southern provinces of the Empire after rebels attacked the Infantry School of War that the workshop was supplying.
Though its sponsors in the Sanshan military were eager to continue investment and expand the workshop, the collapse of the Empire and subsequent wars with the expanding new states that succeeded it forced the workshop to remain small. As funding dried up, the Fasong Community diverted much of the workshop’s workforce to other affairs instead, leaving a small team of gunsmiths as all that remained of Elenrian gunpowder weapons development. Through these financially difficult times, the workshop’s output was remarkably low, with most of its products sold to Expeditions interested with the use of gunpowder weaponry.
It would be this unassuming handful of gunsmiths that would revive the workshop’s place in the Elenrian military however, as the use of arquebus fire by Expedition Pasku against advancing lines of Shysil troops at the 1683 Battle of the Eika River would prove decisive for the Elenrian victory. As a result, interest in the workshop ignited anew, and both the Elenrian government and the Fasong Community invested heavily into the workshop, expanding its workforce to a peak of around 4000 workers producing muskets by the dozens per month in 1749.
Its growth was never meant to be so high however, for prevailing older heads in the Elenrian military deemed the use of traditional bows and swords superior to gunpowder, and so gradually the Fasong Community once more withdrew the workforce of the workshop until only 1,283 workers remained, working only two days out of a week. It would take three more decades of painful, intense wars for the remaining alumni of the Nanshan Academy to finally revert their decision on gunpowder, where they immediately ordered nearly eight times the workshop’s peak capacity.
Luosen Workshop would arm the vast number of royal musketeers by the time of the Elenrian Civil War, and with Fasong Community’s continued allegience to Kesternrim, would remain loyal to the royal government throughout the worst of the fighting years. For their efforts, the Luosen Workshop was promised extensive expansions in facility and workforce: planned Convent of Paths Expeditions to the UKUG and further abroad had proven the value of modern industrial practices, and multiple parties within Elenria, from the Royal Military proper to private wealthy citizens looking to purchase modern firearms for their own ends were all ready and willing to invest in the transformation of the workshop to an arsenal like those of the Old Continent.
This was not to be. As the Kumo invasion and annexation turned an already fragile nation into a chaotic mess of rebellion and chaos, any hope of further progree in the development of the Armory was postponed in the interest of more immediate concerns. It has only been with recent decades of development by TAKPOE authorities and vast amounts of support provided by the Fasong Community that the Workshop has remained afloat, and with growing tensions all around Elenria’s borders, the ancient workshop now mobilizes to bring about a new era for itself.
