Brief History:
Aristoma is sometimes known as the “Jungle of Tears,” a name that suits everything from the weather to the history rather well. Aristoma forests are so dense that it is rumored only the far-human natives of the jungles are intimately familiar with the terrain and landscape. Compounded with foliage capable of growing over roads within days, often hostile native peoples who inhabit the inner jungles, and a myriad of horrific diseases that can only flourish within the humid confines of Aristoma, it is a miracle at all that the little nation has ever pierced the walls of dark trees and bugs to the rest of Granuras.
A largely agricultural Kingdom led by an increasingly polarized constitutional monarchy, the human-led Kingdom has not had a good draw with nor responded well to the changes of the world in the last century, with ethnic tensions only worsening as the far-human Lostar were denied participation to the Parliament, and the demi-human Remar growing increasingly frustrated with a growing human monopoly over the vital lumber and ore extraction industries that comprise the country’s main exports.
Aristoma’s own Parliament, the Kipos, are themselves divided over growing political polarization between Progressives, Liberals, Conservatives, and the extreme Radicals, resulting in an electoral deadlock that only serves to further prevent any sort of meaningful action from taking place in the last decade. Initiatives to subsidize industrialization were slowed and killed in the proposal stage by career politicians seeking to further their parties’ needs, and as a result, any industry expansion that had been made in the last fifty years is the result of corporate expansion, mostly financed from abroad by banks and investors whose offices supposedly are in Koi, but whose returns all too often find their way past the border to Galra. More yet are the lobbying efforts and the source of campaign funds that many a politician is bankrolled by are sourced from other shady individuals, who for some reason always seek out those who just want the best for the humans of Aristoma.
The question then, remains: Will the Kingdom endure? Or shall it be swalled by the foliage, like those ancient ruins in the darkest depths of the jungles were, to be forgotten?
