The UKUG Royal Army corp of engineers had found the Tochea armored car a suitable vehicle for the Royal Armed forces but wanted to push for something that could be more versatile and capable of fighting on rough terrain. Studebaker, Callahan and Stewart were recruited from the UKUG auto industry for the project while members of the upper staff reached out to the Marrlan Republic for assistance on a proper 4X4 transmission and suspension system. Project Armadillo was underway with the prototype build and facility being placed on the island of Sodor. A new 4X4 infantry fighting vehicle. Project Armadillo.

Marrlan would respond promptly and dispatch a team of engineers to assist in the project. They would also begin a search within their own ground craft fleet for examples, finding the GPLAV's a perfect test bed platform to retrieve an effective suspension system for further experimentation and modification. The engineering team would ask for basic parameters for the vehicles weight and dimensions.

The vehicle blueprints would detail the following
5ft by 5in in width 6ft 1 1/2 in height 12ft total length 1/4 ton in weight
The vehicle would have an engine made by Callahan using an experimental 80 horsepower inline 4 cylinder engine. Studebaker would create the frame and body while Stewart worked on the fuel tank, the Armadillo would use petrol over Staol to save weight. It was expected that the transmission and steel body would likely already make the small vehicle heavy.

With the specifications in mind, the engineers would begin planning 2 transmissions to present for testing. A team in Marrlan began testing a stripped-down testbed with weights to see how the suspension could be further improved.

Callahan created the Pantic inline 2.0 liter four cylinder engine for the armadillo, its final design hitting parameters preferred for an offroad operating vehicle. Studebaker was close to finishing the frame and body but requested a type of paint for mass production from the Marrlanders as the green they had was too bright and likely would not mesh well in a battle situation.
Stewart was struggling with the fuel tank but projected they would finish the prototype by the end of the month.
