Rafons Gonta, a petty noble young man brought up in his family's out of town estate on the outskirts of Mizran', was an avid bicycle enthusiast. He grew up riding bicycles, and as he became an adult, he decided to dedicate his life to them, using his family's money to open a business that designed, built and sold bicycles. While not the only or even first bicycle maker in Ashinara, over the years the Gonta brand became one of the most popular choices for people buying bicycles, especially as his was the first to pioneer bicycles built for practical transport and not just leisurely riding.
However, as Ashinara was slowly dragging itself into the modern age, he looked with envy at the speeds achieved by the automobile, the Staol and gasoline motors alike being able to produce torque far superior to what a fox could pedal. But when inspecting an automobile he purchased - a rather old Gaelic model from about 3 decades ago, when the automobile technology was in it's infancy - he noticed that the power was transferred from the motor to the wheels with the same kind of chain found on bicycles. And so, he got the idea to design a smaller motor that could be mounted on a bicycle frame - and have the chain be attached to that instead of a set of pedals to move the vehicle forward. But for that he would have figure out how to make engines - either by hiring someone or learning it himself. After some thinking, he decided to hire a Gaelic engineer who would both design engines for his company, and teach him how to do it as well.
In the meantime, he founded a sister company to his bicycle business - Gonta Motors - and began building his first motorcycle factory.
