The Grinvelian winter attack was successful, armored units plowed hard into Roskanan-Marrish defenses. Grinvel medium and heavy tanks made the difference here as they provided near perfect overwhelming odds against their enemy letting infantry slip in and grab large swaths of territory outside the city. In the city itself, Grinvelian troopers rapidly swept the city with submachine guns and semi automatic rifles leaving their comrades with bolt actions to secure vanguard positions behind them. Grinvelian trucks armed with mounted machine guns provided excellent fire support for infantry in the battle torn streets of Ouhred. Here Grinvel pushed against the defenders and now began to enter the city center, the enemy lines here would be the most important to breach as taking the center of the city meant Grinvel could begin funneling out urban units to connect with country forces and form a solidified front line assault against the Roskanan-Marrish forces. Marrish fighter pilots were giving Grinvelian pilots a hard time, the A-10 fighter was showing its shortcomings as the war reached deeper enemy territory. It simply did not match the Warshark or came close to letting less experienced pilots have the advantage. These struggles on both the Roskanan front and the Marrish fronts would culminate in a report that would force the Grinvel airforce to rethink long term commitments to the fighter. Grinvel forces launch an all out assault on Marrish defenders using armored units to support infantry.

Every inch of ground lost came at a bloody price as the Roskanans hit back again and again with counter-strikes and artillery barrages. Buildings lost were often booby trapped to the point of near uselessness, or in many cases were deliberately collapsed onto the road to slow the movement of Grinvelian forces. A new favored tactic had become waiting in structures at intersections for Grinvelian troops to pass through before engaging them from behind with heavy machine gun teams, targeting their infantry so that teams with anti-tank weapons would be able to attack the armor from above or below, targeting its thin top-armor with thermite, demolition packs, and other weapons. In many cases, more heavily fortified areas had field guns being used for direct fire attacks against Grinvelian armor, hidden behind debris or in store-fronts where they'd not be noticed quickly until they fired. In all cases, these were supported by snipers and mortars.
The city center. A massive ringed section of road surrounded a larger, hilly park. At its center was a monument at the peak of a large hill, that stretched down toward the lower sections of flat grass and now long-since cut down trees and bushes. Across the breadth of this hill, there were a network of dozens of pillboxes and bunkers made of the masonry of demolished buildings, wooden logs, and scrap metal, hosting field gun positions, machine guns, and zigzagging trenches to connect them all together, with fields full of barbed wire covering the approaches that weren't being used to move troops to and from them. The Roskanans were entrenched heavily, and with the supporting positions in buildings all across the city center, they had easy avenues of reinforcement, and areas for additional weapons to be used to cover their units, including elevated field gun positions.
As they pushed against this strongpoint, the Roskanans held nothing back. Storms of mortar and howitzer fire would rain down on any advancing element, while howitzers shelled the area that'd fallen to the enemy. Before long, the fighting had reached the park itself, and the Roskanans kept throwing storms of artillery shells, machine gun fire, and autocannon rounds into the advance of their enemy, ordered to hold at any cost - while entire companies of Roskanan troops would be sent to the hill to reinforce it.

With the capitulation of Roskana came the end of the brutal Karshkan campaign, Fiegler had won a crucial victory for Grinvel and finally defeated the Roskanans. Despite the heavy losses, the closure of the front was more than acceptable for Grinvel who could now focus its entire military on Marrlan and crushing the last of the CN in Eastern Reseria.

With the news of Roskanas surrender, most Marrish soldiers were in such awe they almost had no time to be angry. Almost. Calls of a ceasefire were abided by as professionalism hadn't magically left them, but it drew more than one skeptic assuming it to be some form of trick. When the news actually trickled down, the Expedition Forces Commander lost it. Not ranting and raving, but a daze. Of which, he could not be broken from for at least an hour. His Xo immediately gave the order to retreat from Roskanan territory and send a message to MHC to warn them of the betrayal ahead of their return.
The road home was quiet, save for the Grinvelian celebrations that never seemed to leave their minds. Men they had been fighting for months were simply allowed in without much fuss at all. The cold shoulder was swift for many, some buying into the Castle Party's ideals almost overnight. What help, if any, was welcomed by the EF but most goodwill the soldiers held had melted away. Once they returned to Marrish lands, they would stand guard on the Eastern border.
