The Abbadoni generals laughed as they poured chilled wine and champagne to celebrate the coming invasion of Nowa Lusatia, with the war going swimmingly well in Diria and the overall feeling the SU would win the global war Abbadon decided to act on its own imperial ambitions. Take over Nowa Lusatia, the largest Lusatian colony was a large island west that Abbadon had desired for centuries. Now they felt it was time to break the cycle and finally seize it for their new empire within the SU.
They had drawn up a large invasion force to pull from their Dirian occupation force, leaving Shaum Shela and Galra to deal with the growing desert resistance. Abbadon felt seizing the island from a cut off Lusatia would be easy, the influx of resources alone would enrichen them to a better standing within their bloc.
20,000 standard infantry
10,000 heavy infantry
10 landships
35 of their own light tanks
The entire Abbadoni fleet would transport this massive force to Nowa Lusatia, the navy did light bombardments with what they could frigates and a few destroyers were all that made up the strike force as it did little to shell the beaches. As boats approached the beach the men would get riled up, "You are the greatest generation of our nation! This curse that has laid out west shall be broken! Destroy the colonizer and seize our rightful land back today! You are heroes and legends born this moment!" the Abbadoni soldiers had met some Dirian resistance, mostly army that played cat and mouse in the desert and avoided real fighting. So they never saw heavy combat. Til today.
The Lusatians were ready, armed to the teeth and prepared to defend their island no matter. The Abbadoni landed into hell, the naval bombardments didn't do a damn thing. Chaos erupted as Abbadoni troops scrambled about, lost in the haze of gunfire and artillery barrages. Several boats would be struck by field gun fire killing entire squads.
It was hell. The Abbadon beach assault was a massacre, Lusatian machine guns and rifles decimated the men on the open beach as artillery kept rocking the very ground. In just an hour, over five hundred men were killed as Abbadon continued rushing men to the beach, whistles from officers and stubborn commanders pressed them hard into the beach. "Get in there! Break the beachwall!"
Larger landing craft bringing tanks and trucks received heavy fire sending some into the shallow water utterly ruining the vehicles and stranding them. Some tanks made it only to be destroyed quickly by field gun fire. The yells of men charging at their oblivion would send a cold chill down anyone's spine. Another hour, another five hundred men, an Abbadoni captain decided enough was enough bringing his frigate in full speed to beach it and be used as a forward fire base, the two 100mm guns brought in much needed fire support at the behest of losing a ship. Despite even the warship bringing in help the beach defenders fought harshly, another hour and total losses mounted to 2,500 men lost. The Abbadoni finally broke down a section of the island in the Southeast about 2 miles in pushing the beach defenders inland. But the exhausted invasion force was barely able to push further, reinforcements trickled in because enemy artillery fire hammered both the beachhead and arriving boats. The Lusatians confidently held the island, even if they lost some modest ground it meant nothing as the Abbadoni felt nothing but dread going forward.
Frontline combat was particularly harsh, Lusatian colonial troops constantly harassed the line pressuring the Abbadon infantry to the point of nearly breaking. Some Abbadoni soldiers could barely get a moment to drink water before more bullets came their way, by the end of the first day of fighting Abbadon had lost nearly 3,000 men 1 frigate, several transports and had only been able to land 10,000 of the large invasion force stranding the rest of the deployment on boats and ships. Calls for aid to Galra were ignored, the Galrans stated Nowa Lusatia was not a priority. Abbadon was stuck fighting this battle alone.
