With the active use of gas entering the war and the devastating strike on Harbaville leaving many, especially the Shazzak within service, dead at the hands of deadly fumes the Republic began development for an improved universal respirator system to protect its troops. Existing units were bumped up in the production queue to the same priority as tanks. The project, dubbed Caligo, was open to all CoN members who would like to participate and reap the shared benefits of the program.
URS Pattern 1-1915
Using an old diving suit prototype, existing suit developments for the Beast Hunters, and the joint project with the Nevarrans. The project would also see potential upgrades for Beast hunter armor, adding a filter system to complement the strict scuba respirator.
2 Variants would be made. A simple self contained respirator that could be fastened to the head with straps and fit under a helmet with minimal issue, also featuring clasps to attach the the helmet directly. A secondary variant with a more robust filter system witha back mounted unit for use with shock troops and chemical warfare specialist infantry. The rebreather pack will be affixed to a light metal frame for weight distribution assistance.
URS- Pattern 2-1935
Current Beast Hunter armor (BH-HDS Model 6B-HV) with a closed rebreather system that is either open, allowing air in to the suit, or closed, allowing no air into the suit and relying on the onboard respirator tank and rebreather.
Concepted Beast Hunter armor (BH-HDS Model 7-HV) featuring improved armor layout for mobility comfort and protection based on soldier feedback, reinforced ballistic glass visor(Size and metal armor covering pending), improved hermetic seals, and air filters to allow for enhanced up time in gassed environments.
