“I understand that we must protect our home at all costs, but I fear if we focus exclusively on defense, our enemies will only grow more and more powerful. As the war continues it’s becoming clear that they are not going to win.” Okabe spoke firmly. “If they lose, and if Koi is lost. Our enemies will have infinite resources including manpower. They will be able to launch unending assaults on our home and Elenria. No matter how superior our technology or fighting spirit. They will overwhelm us.”
Reito nodded, clearly extremely disturbed by the prospect. “I see. What do we need to strike back?”
“Our army is mighty, and large. But compared to the forces fighting on the main continent it's tiny and out of date. We must start a draft. We have the arms and munitions to arm 5 times our current deployed forces. If we declare total war we can triple that in a few months. Twenty times in a year. However with our arms as they currently are, it won’t matter. Riku’s and aircraft have become the deciding factors in battles. We need air and armor to stand a chance.”
“We had good reports from our rikus during the reclamation of the notch. Should we ramp up production of the LLCs?” Reito posited bringing up documentation from the war.
“No.” Okabe shook her head. “Our rikus are already miles out of date. They would be creamed on the battlefield. We need to diverge. Throw a curve ball. Rewrite the battlefield.”
Reito put up a hand. “I get it. What do you have in mind?”
“Mechanized walkers. They won’t have issues with the mud and they’ll be more attuned to urban warfare with more angles to attack with. I already have proposals ready to be sent out to contractors.”
She handed over files detailing the specs of four to be constructed armored walkers.
