The Imperial Scientific Community has long been looking outward into the universe. So far only passive observation has been possible, and a large portion of visible space has been charted. But that's only on paper. There have been several attempts to reach the upper layers of the atmosphere, but so far they have all failed due to technological limitations. The Scientific Community, however, didn't give up. Many questions remained, and most likely finding answers to them would only raise more questions. How big is the universe? Can Ouhurians colonize extraterrestrial bodies? And most importantly - is there more Staol out there?
The recently ended Great War, however, has provided an excellent opportunity. During the course of the war, a new weapon has been developed - ballistic rockets. It was the first man-made object to easily reach the upper layers of the atmosphere, most making it back to the planet's surface. The Scientific Community believed that these rockets can also be used to explore the Final Frontier, not just deliver destruction to the enemy.
As such, many scientists all over the Empire have announced a conference in the capital city, Columbia, where they would petition the government to divert funding and resources to exploration of space.
