Lizard Attack Greatfern Settlements!

    Grave news rouses us this morning as reports from the villages of Kalyi and Mern pour in, talking of devastating massacres upon defenseless brothers and sisters in their sleep late last night. In the process, they were apprehended by the local militia who bravely fought back tooth and nail to protect their family and friends. Their furious resistance forced the enemy to turn to drastic tactics, lighting several homes and the local clinic alight. The number of reported deaths has amounted to around currently thirty-seven murdered in cold blood, with around a further forty-three injured from both Lizard weapons and the fire. Ten homes, the clinic and several grain silos razed, likely inviting starvation for the rest of the winter and early spring. 

Those responsible remain uncaptured, sheltered, and celebrated by both the puppet government of the Lizard Queen and the barbarian Empire of the Spider Empress. However, it is known where they came from, likely the traitor town of Velij northeast of the massacre site. Siblings, we cannot wait for a liberation- we must take action and exact our vengeance with an unbreaking spirit! They may be protected now by their promises to the government, but it is paper-thin when we shall kick down their doors, rifles in hand. Remember the blood they spill now at Kalyi and Mern! Remember the blood they spilled at Pelven and Salqe Bay! The plump chicken clucks now upon its post, but the wolves shall have their day and the fowl will become a feast!

Lord Kaln Says He Will Seek Elerian Assistance

    In an exclusive interview today, Lord Kaln Peikli, descendant of the First Greatfern King and current chief commanding officer of our grand Free Army, detailed his plans for the current year, including a strengthening of ties towards Eleria against Elenrian and against Kumo tyranny. To quote, "I will make a trip to specifically improve relations and make acquisitions of new war material for the Free Army, including modern rifles, ammunition, artillery, and the like. In addition, I shall seek future diplomatic support and recognition of a sovereign Royal Greatfern state in Elenria. With these preparations, I hope to create a bedrock from where we may build our new nation, free of control by the abominations that are Far-Humans." 

The current stockpile of arms under the Free Army is inadequate, he added. "I also aim to request further production of existing war material, such as the 7.89x32mm round used in our rifles. While the round itself is severely outdated in its use of first-generation smokeless propellant, it also makes up the majority of ammunition that fits for our 1878 percussion rifles. Until a steady supply of modern equipment can be assembled and reliably supply the Free Army, we must stick with what we currently have."

On the subject of the other Greatfern factions within the Free Government, he commented, "Another reason why I seek the assistance and recognition of Eleria. It is prevalent that division is sown within our ranks- some of which I no doubt suspect are traitors and agents of the Lizard Queen and her mistress. A single, recognized government will be more stable, and there is no authority more unifying to our people than the Greatfern bloodline itself." 

He ended with the interview with encouragement and good wishes for those of us at home: "A strong body is what we need to combat the enemy that are the Lizards. Keep vigilant! The grain that you grow is for not the taxman, but your fellow Greatferns! Stand up to the oppressors! Glory to Elenria!"

People's Legion Denounce Father Kapri!

    In response to a recent sermon by Father Kapri of Bekin, a member of the Church of the March, the openly communist political group People's Legion has written a letter denouncing him today as a trickster and scammer, sabotaging the future of the honest man under lies of salvation and promises by a false deity. Among the accusations were attached records of the minister's monetary dealings and extensive information on suspected charges of unbecoming conduct towards minors. Though these charges were swiftly denied, the Father cannot deny the growing mountain of evidence that shows his accumulation of wealth in recent years. Undoubtedly, he loves coin more than his faith. (And young boys as it seems too.)

There is much to support this- there is little to no record that he makes any donation towards the Free Army, instead hoarding religious tithes. For what? Has it been noticed that the minister lives in a large house, recently purchased, when he supposedly has a far smaller pay? Or that he, a "humble" minister,  owns a car with a chauffeur, in addition to many exquisite jewelry? Aptly, he should be known as God's ring finger for how he loves to both insult the common man to their face with robes of silken gold and sermons of pretty lies.

Ceasefire Tested

    Back in Astillia, by the orders of Honorable Lord Kaln, a ceasefire was ordered on all operations against the Eastern Forces, limiting the fighting on our side to mere home defense with a freeze on all retributory actions. Even with the protests of senior military advisors, Kaln insisted that the wisdom of the venerable Elerian Imperator had directed him to seek diplomacy with the Lizard Queen's forces. This month the ceasefire continues with a shaky maintenance by local commanders along the border villages in both the Southern and Central Badlands, if only in the hope that the Territorial forces do not seize the opportunity to wipe out our villages one by one in our distraction. If it's any consolation, both rumor and reports have not revealed any major activity from the Queens' side of Elenria- if anything, they are just as content to lick their own wounds that our forces inflicted back in late Obsillia's campaigns.

Nevertheless, skepticism remains in high quantities and justifiably so. The only thing separating the armies seem to be the few dozen kilometers between settlements, discounting the wounded countryside that we've seen torn up by the exchange of skirmishes. Several sources close to the honorable Lord, such as General Ulsfen of the Turban Brigade,  have openly pushed that Lord Kaln is deep in negotiations with the Lizard Queen- or worse. Even if that is so, members from the "Brikia" E.N.C.O.R. Coalition have pointed out that a sort of peace does offer the chance for development by the Royal government, quoting that, "much of the Eastern argument for the denial of national services have been our thinly-veiled armed conflict and consequential refusal to pay the taxes and duties demanded by Kesternrim."

We should take great pains to ensure that we keep the peace, no matter what one's opinion on the ceasefire is. Negotiations are a fickle matter, and an experienced noble like honorable Lord Kaln is best suited to ensure our interests are furthered in the best way possible. He knows the nation from the eagle eyes of the high castle- we only know the view of our villages and the local countryside. A nation can only remain intact through the contributions of many, and we should feel obligated to hold ourselves to such standards more firmly. If not for Kaln, then do it for the future that he's weaving for us.

Kaln Falters!

    Lord Kaln has had exactly fourteen years to make right the disaster that was the Battle of Maika from the failures of his uncle, and made less progress growing than the famine-stricken crops of the East. The Lizard Queen has us exactly where she and her army want us- at the far end of the oak table with a single, manipulatable figure to play puppet theatre with. Kaln is desperate to keep control of his power- we saw that in ten years ago in Paruna when the powder riots were put down with firing squads. The negotiations will undoubtedly be our undoing if he is allowed to continue- he will exchange his people to retain his position. We will be subjected to the same mistreatment we have faced for centuries: disaster relief that comes too late, cities too unimportant to have railroads running through, pupils too dim to study in the royal universities. They have lied before- what'll stop them from doing it again?

I urge you to wash your mind of the swamp muck, Professor. The Territorial love their puzzles and ruses- the only reason that they want us all dead like in the Old Scorching is because we've wised up to their tricks. Listening to their little trumpet organization E.N.C.O.R. is meant to make you think that they are offering us a skinning knife to tan hides while held up to our necks. Only fools believe that any of the Lizard Queen's lies are ever with merit. Their everlasting patience will be spent waiting in coffins if we ever follow alongside their example. If the wars of our parents and theirs has taught us at all any lesson, it is that we cannot wait. There are many with Kaln's ability in our lands and none of his feebleminded resolve, nor his short-fuse temper. He is replaceable. The fates of our children are not. We can die on on our feet, or be slaves on our knees. Perhaps it is because you've never seen beyond the stained glass of your College, but I have fought my whole life as a soldier- to surrender now is dishonorable tot he souls of those before us who gave their names in this cause.

Royalists Armed By Outsiders?

    During an offensive action to push back against the encroaching outposts of Royalist forces in the Elpi region of the Badlands, brave comrades of the Sixteenth Volunteer Guard found themselves under assault by weapons unseen before in even the Territorial arsenals. (Although worryingly, similar weapons were found amongst the armaments of the 'Territorial Reserve' during routine surveillance upon bases). These seem to have no traceable link to domestic production- in fact, much of the production stamping is in a foreign dialect, suggesting some outside force is supplying the Royalists with new weapons, such as pistol-caliber machineguns smaller than a carbine.

Fellow siblings of the Elenria, I write this article to alarm you as comrades- information is power and who knows how much we need it in these times. It is urgent that we seek our own modernity in war- our lever-actions and falling-blocks are quickly descending into antiquity and the best thing we can do to compensate is reverse-engineer the material we capture with what little industry we have. I call that action be taken immediately- some sort of mutual conference between our generals is needed to brainstorm a resolution.
