Overview
Name(s): The Principality of Premna, The Premna
Flag:
People and Society
Races: Humans 88%, Other* 12% (*Others likely include only recent migrant peoples after the country has opened up.)
Languages Spoken: Premnan, Common
Autonomy: Premna is particularly popular towards immigrants for those seeking work as the nation seeks to build up its industry and as such, through heavy vetting of course, encourages many from all over to come to the nation. The state plays an overbearing role in Premna now more than ever with a large government of many arms reaching out in any way they can. While the state dominates economically it remains rather centrist if slightly more progressive in social affairs allowing things that hadn't existed in Premna before like homosexual unions, abortion, and so on. Though the state places great emphasis on growing and supporting large families and even goes as far as to encourage adoption of orphaned individuals.
Government
Government Type: Premna defines itself as a Principality ruled by the Crown Prince (often referred to as Prince or Kniaz) Artem Romanov who bears near-total responsibility for the nation as a paternal autocratic figure that assumed the mantle of rule after the dissolution of the whole party that occupied the Duma during the White Revolution. Now Kniaz Artem, along the the aid of ministers and revolution supports within the Duma, organize the nation through an authoritarian system of governance.
Nobility and Privilege: Ever since the Duma's decision to dissolve the Tsardom of Premna, there hasn't been a reigning figurehead within the government outside of the Premier of the Duma during the later Staol Wars. While Kniaz Artem now acts as the absolute ruler of Premna he has stated that he will not claim the Tsardom until Premna has 'been made whole' and 'has earned the right'. Many have taken this to mean that Kniaz Artem will only mantle the position once he fufils the promises made before and during the revolution. Initially supporting him in secret, the Boyars who were constantly at odds with the Duma during the reign of the old regime have openly expressed their support of the new regime and find themselves satisfied with with some of the liberal reforms passed by the Principality.
Capitol City: Reidenz is the historic capital of Premna as it was the seat of power for during the Imperial period and what has now been defined as the 'Interregnum' by the current government.
Crime and Punishment: Currently a new legal system is being drafted in Premna as the government believes the old one to be archaic. They look to model their legal system after some of the northern nations who share their heavy republican ideas and values. Because the government is new they remain suspicious of seditious and counter-revolutionary actions with most judicial actions being trials of party members to the old regime including those who engaged in horrific actions and displays during the revolution.
Allies and Adversaries: Currently, Premna has no noticeable allies or enemies. The state does admittedly have very strained relations with its neighbors.
Taxation: The government maintains the current tax rate and policies that were used during the reign of the old regime. Though there have been moves within the new government to raise taxes and invest these funds back into rebuilding key infrastructure in Premna damaged by the revolution. Though the Duma remains somewhat divided on the movement and Kniaz Artem has had his attention focused on other matters during this process.
Infrastructure: During the uprising some important infrastructure has been damaged by the conflict such as civilian factories and road systems but the government has emphasized the importance of repairing these structures and encourage both employment and volunteer work to repair and maintain these facilities.
Military: The military of Premna is is still rebuilding and reorganizing itself after the conflict but Kniaz Artem has awarded those who followed him in the in the revolution by officializing the White Army as the national army of Premna.
Economy
Natural Resources: Iron is found in large quantities in Premna and many mining and manufacturing industries within the country thrive off of the abundance of steel that is produced in this country. Other notable but lesser industries include agriculture, lumber, copper, aluminum and coal which are staples of the Premnan economy. Interesting enough there does exist traces of Staol within the country but in both regimes this resource is being highly coveted.
Trade, Guilds and Market: The market is currently being heavily planned as Premna follows a state capitalist model post-revolution. Kniaz Artem has stated that the government would be lifting hold over the economy within the decade to adopt a more mixed-economy system where there would be an established balance of powers and so that the free market couldn't dictate affairs of the state like during the tyranny of the Duma.
Technology and Medicine
Transportation and Communication
Farming: Agriculture remains an incredibly important industry in Premna as farmers account for much of the participants in the revolution against the old government. Though the government is turning its attention to focus on stabilization and industrialization it has made the farmers well off to do their own thing and continue producing for the state.
Export/Import: Steel, coal, and lumber count as major exports whereas Premna keeps most of its aluminum for production. Staol is exported from Premna but so far only in marginal amounts.
Culture
Art and Entertainment: Art was often repressed culturally with many artists who wanted to come out of traditional styles in painting, drawing, theater, dance, and so on were often ridiculed and shunned by higher society as they were often seen as deviant or degenerate pieces. Post-revolution however those artists who want to explore new mediums are finding no resistance by the government as underground galleries are beginning to be made public and those wanting to express themselves through new artforms are allowed to with little fear of the government intervening or censoring them. This has began the founding of several new artistic movements within Premna who start to explore new mediums and style. Many of which often describe bleak life during the reign of the old regime and provide contrast with popping colors or the return of ornate pieces making Kniaz Artem Romanov and his contemporaries like icons.
Architecture: A lot of Premnan architecture prior to the new regime taking control was based around gothic and gothic revival movements that existed within the country. These styles were really the only ones that were approved by the former Premnan government and buildings were constructed this way to be uniform as well as beautiful. However new projects starting with with revolutionary government are beginning to look at other movements in architectural design and those dejected designers are able to now find work planning the construction of buildings and facilities often in the national romantic or other various modernizing styles.
Ethics: With the new regime in power many consider this a period of Premnan introspection as they believe they are now able to look beyond the conservative and often oppressing ideals of the state and look at their own interest and desires, seeing what produces the most happiness for them and embracing new thoughts and ideals that modernize the perspective of these culturally stagnant and isolated peoples.
Gender Equality/Roles: For the first time in the history of Premna women are able to enjoy the civil liberties of men and where both sexes are treated as equal under the new government. Previously when Premna was ruled by the old government women were often legally barred from engaging in the same activities as men even if the government chose not to recognize this disparity. Now, however, the assembly has stated its support for feminine revolutionaries and open positions in office of which have began to be occupied by important Premnan female role-models. Rumors have it that Premna even plans to allow women to volunteer in the army once it is established, something that would have never been considered in the old regime.
Greeting & Meeting: It is polite to formally greet anyone with a "Hallo" or "Privet" and an ungloved handshake while it is formally polite to say goodbye with an "Servus" or "do svidaniya" which can be concluded again with an ungloved handshake. For more casual relationships or meetings one could greet with a "Hi" or "Hallochen" or "Tag/Tach" and then can conclude with a "Tchuss".
Fashion and Dress: Premna gets undeniably cold and even towards the summer months there are days in which theyre can be chilled breezes carried from the coast or down from the mountains so often times many Premnas prefer to bundle up and during the old regime some outlandish forms of wear were prohibited including some colors on certain dresses or uniforms so people tend to wear dark clothes and dresses often monotone or with simplistic patterns. Practicality is often preferred especially when enduring cold days and nights so there never was a real complaint and to this day the trend of wearing heavy monotone attire persists though more earthly colors are beginning to appear a lot.
Holidays: The majority of Premnan holidays are based in the Orthodox faith.
Customs
Religion
Premnan Orthodoxy: To the people that follow Premnan Orthodoxy adhere to the Nibenean Creed that founded the first faith of the Yasafian religion. As such the people and many of the churches adhere to the Ecumenical Council and are organized under the Patriarch of Premna who acts as the spiritual leader for all Bishops and Bishoprics within Premna. Defining Premnan Orthodoxy is heavy reverence in saints through artistic and holy depictions of them known as Icons. Often times particularly venerable people throughout Premna's history have been painted in an iconographic style though some Bishoprics argue that such a practice is heretical and that Icons have to be of saints that have been properly canonized into the faith. Still though, many churches are often dedicated to the worship of god through a saint or group of saints with St. Astarte being the most popular and often claimed to be the Patron Saint of Premna as a whole. Some churches within Premna though being so far away from the Ecumenical Patriarchate have broken off to lead their own independent congregations known as the Orthodox Assemblies.
