FCDC Issues National Statement on International Pandemic
The FCDC Director, Dr. Fiorella Cocci, went on to national television and radio to report on the situation unfolding in the eastern parts of the country. The FCDC has issued a national warning, labeling the current disease outbreak a pandemic and raising the nation's outbreak threat to RED. She went on to say the following (translated from New Amalian to Common):
"We have concurred that the disease reported by the Republic of Koi and her city-state of Venezian is of the same nature as the one found here. A bacterial infection that can, in the worst case, lead to death. We believe at this current moment we are dealing with an outbreak of the Pustule Plague, which we can conclude is not native to our nation. We are attempting to trace the origins of the disease as the first outbreaks began in Napuli and Aken. The National Harbor Registrar Act of 1844 has proven useful time and time again in disease fighting, especially when it came to the Othorian Plague of 1903. We believe we can find the disease's origins, or at least the general location it came from."
She later went on to say:
"It is at this moment that we advise all citizens of our nation to isolate and prepare preventative actions to minimize the size of the outbreak. Port cities are advised to keep international ships' crew onboard their own ships and provide proper care to dockworkers. If you believe you are infected, get tested as soon as possible. If you notice signs of infection, make your way to care facilities such as hospitals or FCDC care facilities as soon as possible. The earlier it can be caught, the better care and the faster recovery time we can expect for you. We advise against looking at rural medicine, as there have been no known benefits to using it to cure the Pustule Plague. We are working with the nation's top pharmaceutical companies and pharmaceutical researchers to increase production of penicillin. The best way to prevent potential contamination is to wash your hands, properly prepare food, and wash your pets to prevent fleas from entering your home. As well, keep your pets indoors or by your side at all times and don't let them wander around the cities."
The FCDC deployed extra doctors and workers to the desert regions of the nation, that noticeably lack much of the funding the modern coastal regions have. The FCDC started work with local non-profits and cities to find strays and properly eliminate the threat posed by their presence by taking them to shelters, wash them, and prepare them for adoption. This is the first time a massive wave of something like this has occurred in Amali's history.
President, Congress Approve HIBAA Act Ahead of Potential Issues The President and Congress approved the Housing, Income, and Business Alleviation Act ahead of potential downturns. While the act has passed with a strong majority support, others believe that this is a step backwards. Some members of Congress who voted 'yes' only voted that way because their constituents demanded it in the event the nation enters a recession. The Act will only enter effect if a recession starts as a result of the Plague.
FCDC Opens Talks Across Aegis Pact The FCDC Director has begun contacting other members of the Aegis Pact to try and centralize efforts to control and eliminate the disease. Calls went out to the Kumosenkan, United Kingdom, and Elrenian governments to send correspondents to the Amalian capital of Ibania. Proper medical precautions will be taken to make sure another wave doesn't hit the capital or that they return to their nations carrying the disease.
Rugby Internationale Begins Planning for Next Season
The RI has stated that, until further notice, large in-person events are suspended and that all events for the pre-season are to be private. In the current instance, the RI will work with camera and radio agencies to improve infrastructure and camera technology. Specifically, with the advent of color in the late 1910s and continued expansion of the understanding of it, the RI is heavily investing in such technologies to provide "true-to-life" and "real-time" camera filmography.
