The Kithium League.
Daughter of a Dynasty.
Daughter of a Dynasty.
Once upon a time this used to be a free nation. But a century of political infighting had done so much to change that, so much to damage and wreck the very fabric of the nation's once thriving.. then dying, republic.
It had led to The Collapse, the destruction of the very Republic in all but name. Now what remains is a shell - held up by a council of puppet masters that had once upon a time been charged with defending the nation. They now run it.. and have for over two decades.
Tesena had been born before the Collapse, as had her daughter, dear Thanatos. Both had before long been in the tradition post held by their family, their dynasty's strongest holding. The Armed Forces were theirs, held by their hand and reign and led by their commands. Despite written duty, loyalty was kept in their hands, by the constant work of this shadow government that had since the start of their brutal civil war in 1923, they had held a firm grip. Deposed the old government and shattered it and its loyalists for all their crimes against the nation, their petty corruption, their ineptitude and incompetence. But it had taken its heavy toll on the country, for twenty years.
Thanatos had taken command of the armed forces in the 1930s, 1931 being the year where she had soon reached Supreme Commander under the authority of Martial Law and the council of the Junta that had taken command. It had been with that, that the now de facto ruler of a nation, Minister of Defense in title but in effect its Empress, that the civil war had reached what had become its last stretch, after Operation Leveler during the Fifth Staol War.
Thanatos and Tesena, mother and Daughter, had both however accepted that they could not keep the fight raging on for longer. Despite the war in the majority of the League being over and contained, the nation had to progress and advance, it had to leap forwards. It couldn't do this if its military was tied down in a endless war, and it couldn't commit to a genocidal cross-country rampage across the outer boundaries for both fear of the international response, and the simple fact it'd be a bloody process and fight against myriad cells of rebels. Of course, now she had some basic ideas in mind to handle that.
Thanatos herself, resting in her seat inside of the Command and Control center at Salvador Special Operations Command, had put one of them into motion not that long ago.. by hiring a force of Mercenaries from Nevarra and Rombarda. With little official relations with Rombarda, the contingent was already Nevarran based, though the Nevarran's being a distant parent of a sort had been easy already to reach. This unit of about 200 soldiers were a specialist formation officially and apart of the 'Foreign Legion'. It helped they had their own equipment.
They sat, waiting by the Radios as they took in constant updates from the force of Mercenaries as they cleared a section of the Far Southern province near the border of the CIE. The Kithium League had by and large been preparing for the final big offensive to end the fighting entirely, now that most cells had been identified and the rest would be largely easy to pick out once they had gotten to proper obliterating the camps. The aftermath of the New Years Offensive by the rebels had certainly however pushed those plans to be brought faster, and the Kithium were short the men they needed.
Thanatos was bringing in Mercenaries in an effort to bolster their forces and to enable them to do more dirty jobs without much risk to her own forces. She would of course as well, need to consider the size of the force she would have to bring in and incorporate into the 'Foreign Legion' and then into just plain Mercenary Units. This was the second to last test, an evaluation of troops to hire from Nevarra, and potentially as well the Abaddon Corporate Syndicate. With the continued updates rolling in she was confident this might be a good investment of a somewhat bloated defense budget.
Thanatos' uniform was a dull grey, lined with combat medals. Her neck fur had thickened significantly and it partly covered the lapel, though she left it as it was. Her hair, blonde, came down to her shoulders in braids and was tied off in a pony tail at the back to keep it from going down her back, while her tan fur and white underbelly were outlined with black fuzz, interspaced with clan markings and such that ran across the entirety of her body. Symbolic of her dynasty. Others, most, didn't have nearly as much coloration and decor on their fur. Marking her out for 'greatness' as some would call it, and it fit. She'd be the one of whom had to now lead a nation back into greatness. To think this was one of the first steps.
Thanatos was a 'Cheetah', though her bloodline was a mix and the varied traits had produced denser fur and a somewhat more common structure aside from the lack of spots over most of her body. She looked more like a common Kithium. Her athletic build had as well been warped somewhat by child birth - her youngest daughter now old enough to join the armed forces while her oldest was already a Colonel, with the middle children, one of only two of a litter to live past conception, had both become workers in the National Armory.
To think that they were doing so much for the sake of the nation. In the back of her mind she wondered what kind of impression she had left on her children as she listened to idle chatter between pilots in the mercenary contingent, before activity would draw her attention as they began to report contact. The engagement was broadcast over the radio for several minutes, before a brief silence fell, and a 'Clear' was heard from their side.
"Nine KIA, all hostile. Cell was building barrel bombs according to the boys on the ground. They are prepping them for demolition. Over."
Thanatos would smile softly. Other units began to report their findings.
Maybe it was a fluke, but for once the success rate had convinced her in full that maybe it might be worth the money. She began to ponder how she might go about acquiring this mercenary army to tear through the last strongholds of her foes.. and how they might be compensated. She stood, and left the room as the rest of her command staff took over and began to reign in the operatives, operation complete for the most part, now just in the wrapping up phase.
