Things had changed in Desterque, that was for certain. When the message came out from Venezja, Pierre knew what had happened. Anyone showing symptoms was to be quarantined. Initially, the plan was to quarantine people at the hospitals, but after the size of the issue became apparent, a new plan was decided on. Any new cases were to quarantine at their residence, until symptoms stopped. In the meantime, whatever this disease was had spread far beyond Desterque.
"What is this, Pierre?" Dulj Lucille Pollo of Alcasse said to Dulj Pierre Cane, "New cases of that plague from Venezja start showing up in my city, so my health officials spread the word around to other cities, and it turns out your city already had them! If my people die from this disease because of your lax safety concerns, this isn't the last discussion like this we'll be having, Cane."
"This is not my fault, Pollo," Pierre retorted, "I have done all I can, anything further and Forron said he would veto it. He wants to keep Estiere's economy afloat, and I can't blame him. We were effected the least by the business on the border, we have had a good as time as a Barony could. Lord Forron wants to keep that alive, but he doesn't realize that if he doesn't allow us to take more drastic measures, we may end up worse than Elenerre. Several other Duljs and I are going to make our case to him, hopefully make him see our reasoning."
That hardly did anything to call Lucille down. "You let that man boss you around in your own city?" the Dulj asked.
"My control only extends to the city of Desterque," Pierre answered, "If he wanted to, the Baron could theoretically cut off the whole city to quarantine it. Forron wouldn't ever do that, but he has that power, so I listen to him. Even if he makes a terrible decision that I have thus far been unable to convince him to change. Now, is that all you wanted from this meeting?"
"No, there's one more topic to discuss," Pollo said, "As the first cases are now in Alcasse, this ceases to be an Estiere problem. Now, it's a Franerre problem, and for that we need a national response. But what ministry can we go to? Baronies are responsible for their own healthcare, the MLF is swamped, and the MCP is bloated. I would ask the PPL to put a bill out for the emergency, but the coalition is in a bit of a rocky place. I don't know if it would pass, but hopefully the PPL and SNF can stop their bickering long enough to put it through, but another Dulj signing off on the importance of this can't hurt."
Cane gave out a dry chuckle. "First you berate me, then you ask for my help? As satisfying as it would be to deny you, you're right, I'm afraid. I'll sign off on the importance of your bill."
Lucille gave out a sigh, a weight clearly off the woman's chest. "Thank you. That was it for this meeting."
"If you'll excuse me then," Pierre said, standing up from his seat at the table.
