Another night, and another three sick. Ludmila had half the mind to ask for a break, the exhausted nurse teetering on the brink of falling unconscious. First Volgora, and now Milobor and other cities. She didn't know if any of it was connected, or if it was just a quite unfortunate accident that outbreaks would happen in all of the cities, but she was too tired to even give the thought much consideration now. Her current task was to check on Patient #74 - Zdravko Borislav. Young, aged around 27 and quite healthy before the outbreak - and still is, given he came in quite early on. So long as he received proper medical care, he'd likely be the first one out.
There were moans and silent cries coming from quite a few patients, yet thankfully, none of them were in serious or prolonged pain... for now, at least, something Ludmila could be thankful for. Walking down the halls, she could see other nurses, her colleagues and friends, walking about to keep the hospital working around the clock. While passing by one of her fellows, she got reassurances that Ludmila would be free for the rest of the week - just two more hours. It made her smile - two more hours for four days of rest. She was glad that she would soon go home. Continuing to walk down the hallway, she couldn't but hear muffled sounds coming from further down. Ordinarily, it would likely be some nurses holding down a patient to help them with something, but there was no yelling from the pain. Something was amiss, and she needed to investigate.
Walking slowly to the doors, she stopped at them to see which patient was inside. Patient #74, Zdravko. Perhaps he was up earlier than usual? Yes, that was likely the case. Woke up too early and is trying to bring light to his room. That seemed logical. Still, she did have to pay him a visit, and as such, quietly knocked on the doors before opening them.
The sight she quickly bore witness to was that of unexpected shock. Partially gagged, tied and in distressed pain, the hospital's 'star patient' was writhing in pain as a wrench hit his side, earning a groan of pain from Zdravko. And the assailants? Armymen more than likely, from their uniforms. She gasped, earning a glare from one of the soldiers as he turned around to face her, drawing out a pistol aimed squarely at her forehead. "You have exactly six seconds to exit the room and forget we were ever here. Any report of this gets out to the hospital staff and we'll know."
She slammed the door shut the moment he finished, breathing heavily from the sudden adrenaline rush. She winced as she heard another pained groan, followed by a muffled sound from one of the soldiers. "We know you met with him. Where is Władislaw Kazambek!?" Ludmila sat next to the door, still trying to process what she had just seen. No, the Vozhd could never do this! Not in a million years! She never did like him, but he knew restrains! Surely...
By the time she was to go home, they were still inside.
