Elenria Horizon Beliefs & Culture
Elenrian Beliefs
Pavli Elenria
In addition to the base Elenria Horizon beliefs inherited from their home, Far-Elenrians also believe in the concept of Pavli Elenria- or rather, the idea of a unified Elenria incorporating both Elenria and Elenria Horizon into a single entity. While the practicality of such a long-range relationship is challenged by many when EH barely has any sort of military presence, let alone a navy, its proponents, including a vast number of inselni and their Expeditions fiercely back the sentiment that Elenria itself would provide far more room and space for the long-term future of those upon the island, including physical land to live on, education, military protection, and welfare under the command of the Queen.
Opponents meanwhile are quick to point out the logistical demand of traveling up and down the ocean to reach both areas. While both areas may be rich in resources, it does little for either if the cost expended to even move material proves excessive. Thus, the opposing side to Pavli Elenria argues that more time must be spent to prepare for the independent operation of both to prevent catastrophe if cut off from one another. This should result in Elenria Horizon's ability to either act autonomously as a federated unitary state, or as a separate entity entirely, such as a colony.
Elenrian Culture
Clothing & Appearance
With warmer climates for most of its islands, clothing is really only a matter of reduced, thinner dress and replacing the usual trousers with shorts or skirts. This is accompanied by a full-size bush hat similar to that of the Greatferns, in addition to a small knife, used mostly for utility purposes. The dress itself is a unique configuration, designed as an add-an piece to the tunic worn, made of durable and relatively waterproof material to be configured into a makeshift float if needed. This usually is done by extremely dense weaving, but also often by applying a cocktail of oils to the dress to maintain its waterproof properties.
Crowns are wrapped about the bush hats for those originally from the Elenria, while the native-honorables wear their own crowns-similarly forged decorativegreaves, shoulder pieces, earrings, and the like. More than a few of the tribes make their crowns a segmented necklace-like piece, with the teeth of predator marine life strung from their ends. While firearm ownership is not allowed nor common anyway, citizens of EH do carry traditional blades- Inselni crescent spears, Crown straight swords, and natives throwing knives or javelins.
Community
With the fairly unorthodox and diverse condition of New Elenria's small population, communities exist as a series of linked islands or as towns of interlinked hives- small towns and production centers deeply dependent on the ancient subterranean construction techniques inherited by the inselni from even before the arrival of humans to modern Elenria. Every building is constructed out of the hard brick refined from sand and clay scraped from quarries, mixed in with seashells and coral is the absence of more stone. Basements are built with honeycombed coolers in their floors and walls, with ice dredged from the northern islands and transported tohe rest of the area to fill into the cooler alongside saltwater. The resulting temperature, controlled by a series of vents, allows for the Far-Elenrians to easily adjust their living quarters to comfortable temperatures. More vents that interconnect between homes allows for shared temperature balance.
Each community is easily its own enclave, the residents of the region well used to spring and fall typhoons that rend the waves and separate contact from fellow settlements for several months. As a result, local diets subsist largely on seafood and some little agriculture on larger islands. (Some inselni have experimented with glass-roof homes for indoor gardens, but their effectiveness during storms remains questionable at best.) Even yet, the stubborn tradition of the Far-Elenrians draws them to make the journey to one another in order to build and develop new settlements for the hideous amount of effort they demand, as well as sustaining the nation's economy in concentrated efforts. As a result of this strangely disparate-unitary relationship between its population, industry, and leadership, much time and therefore efficiency is expended as messages are transported from island to island, whether by ferry or otherwise.
Education
Education and the uplifting of general intelligence amongst the populace is a strong priority in Elenria Horizon, with native populations sent to school alongside Far-Elenrian pupils to learn together in styles similar to that of the old republican system, with fraternal systems headed by respected older students leading younger classmates in their communal education. All stidents are required to learn both their local language and that of New Elenrian in order to communicate between their own communities and those of the non-foreigners.
