Calabrian Age 1.8-0.781 Ma
The Calabrian Age saw the rise of the Metsaline Latrodectus Sapien species. Informally known as Kumo. While previous evolutions had begun the foundations of tribalism such as cooking food, the creation of clothing, and basic tools the true foundation of organized tribes on the island of Krelan. These tribes relied exclusively on the women to hunt for food. They used their naturally produced webbing to trap their prey.
Chibanian Age 781000-126000 IC
Kumo tribes expanded, a few numbering in the hundreds. The first recorded evidence of permanent structures made of clay and stone. All previous structures were made of snow, ice, and Kumo produced silk. The first Kumo on Kumo tribal war. Two of the larger Kumo tribes began a conflict over disputed territory by the Shinano River. One tribe used primitive weapons in their humanoid hands (Haiko), and the other created weapons by tying sharpened stones to their forward-most legs (Azumi). As the war dragged on, the Azumi tribe began attaching stones to all eight legs, and occasionally the entire abdomen as it acted as a primitive form of armor, and also enabled them to attack anyone to their sides or behind them. This gave them the advantage and ultimately the Azumi won the war. The Azumi integrated the remaining members of the Haiko tribe and eventually expanded to control the entire Shinano River.
On the opposite side of the Mensgami Bay, the Kumaso tribe was expanding undisputed along the Ishikari River. The "elite" of the Kumaso lived in permanent structures made of primarily stone, while the majority of other structures were constructed out of snow and ice. The elite ruled with an iron fist, and those that stepped out of line were typically executed.
Tarantian Age 126000-11000 IC
The age of Famine
In the late Tarantian Age, food started to become scarce in the Azumi tribe. They ceased honorific burials and began to use their own dead as food. They began to expand north to enrich their hunting grounds and had their first encounter with another sapient species. Small tribes of humans had taken up settlements on the northern portions of the island of Krelan. The Azumi tribe immediately began a war with every human tribe they found. The humans consolidated into a single mega tribe to fight off the Kumo. One of the human tribes had invented the bow and arrow so they could engage Kumo warriors at range. This kept the war at a standstill until the Azumi tribe began producing their own bows and arrows. With a combination of their crude armor and now ranged armament the Kumo decisively overran the human tribes. The introduction of human meats staved off the famine and allowed the Azumi tribe to grow exponentially.
In the south, the Kumaso tribe continued to expand, dominating any other Kumo tribes they encountered within the range of the Ishikari River. Their use of spears both as melee weapons and as throwables put them at a significant advantage over other tribes primarily equipped with clubs. Though the tribe desired to expand more, internal conflicts over food stores kept their interests contained.
Novianean Age 11000-8200 IC
The age of Collapse
The Azumi tribe's military dominance over every other tribe they encountered bolstered their confidence significantly. They continued to expand north in the early Novianean Age. Their continual victories with little to no losses allowed them to also begin their expansion southward. After many lifetimes of prosperity within the Azumi tribe, a split occurred. Being constantly at war with at least one other tribe left much of the Azumi territory unchecked. There were three major rebellions within Azumi. The northern territory was split by two rebelling groups within Azumi, and the southern was split by Azumi proper and a rebelling group. Azumi proper redirected its warriors to the rebelling group in the south. After a few decades of fighting Azumi proper unconquered the south. However, in this time the two new northern tribes allied so when Azumi proper turned their attention again to the north they couldn't make any significant progress into their territory. The Azumi tribe continued to fight the northern tribes with little to no success until the end of the Novianean Age.
The Kumaso tribe began expansions into the arctic ends of the island of Krelan. The areas were lacking in fresh liquid water, but the people of Kumaso had discovered they could melt snow in a stone bowl with fire to get water. This discovery allowed them to expand rapidly into the arctic regions. Here the Kumaso encountered a new race of Sapients. Homo Vulpine Sapien, commonly called the Arctic Eoni (Arctic Fox Demi-Humans). There were many Arctic Eoni tribes, although none of them had seen any sort of organized conflict. The only weaponized tools they had were exclusively used for hunting small animals found in the arctic regions of the island of Krelan. The Kumaso people observed the nearest Arctic Eoni tribe for quite a long time before taking action. They fought a quick and brutal war against a handful of Arctic Eoni tribes and treated them as they did any other prey.
Northgrippian Age 8200-4200 IC
The Azumi tribe continued to wage its war against the Hayato and Saeki tribes in a fruitless attempt to reclaim the territory they had lost. Though the meaning of the constant fighting got lost in the ages of fighting and the war stopped being about territory and could be simply boiled down to fighting because that is what they had always done. The constant fighting prevented any of the tribes from expanding their borders any further, and instead shrunk them down.
In the Early Northgrippian Age, the Kumaso tribe began the first recorded incidents of domesticating animals for farming. They began oddly farming the Arctic Eoni. They oversaw their tribes with a small handful of warriors and culled anyone of large enough size. The Arctic Eoni "farms" were not enough to keep the Kumaso tribe fed on its own and the Kumaso began expanding its farms to include non-sapient animals.
Towards the end of the Northgirppian Age, all four of these tribes discovered the process of smelting. The Hayato and Saeki tribes began the production of metal swords, shields, and small metal coins. The Azumi tribe began creating sharp metal coverings for their legs that acted both as a weapon and as armor. The Kumaso tribe produced metal spears and javelins as well as a variety of gold and other metal coins. Before the invention of coins and currency, the cultivators of farms tended to hoard their food for their family and friends only trading the food away when it was a very good trade or the meat had started to go bad.
Age of Civilization 4200 - 1896 IC
4200-4000 IC
Early on in the Age of Civilization, the tribe of Kumaso began building exclusively building permanent structures out of clay, stone, brick, and metal. The first Kumo city, Kakunodate, was founded in the Ishikari river valley. Several other smaller villages were constructed within the Kumaso. The tribe began farming grains, and berries primarily to cultivate livestock more efficiently. Though berries, grains, and other crops eventually found their way into the Kumo diet.
After an endless war, the Azumi tribe finally conquered the Hayato tribe by convincing the Saeki to aid them in return for peace and half of the Hayato territory. Thus began the second age of Azumi dominance. They spent the next few years building up their home with more permanent structures creating the second Kumo city, Usuki. With more advanced forges and better organization, the warriors of the Azumi became better equipped than they ever were. Near the end of this period, the Azumi began their war against the Saeki.
4000-3000 IC
The Azumi believed a surprise war after quite a few years of peace would allow them to decisively take over the Saeki. Initially, the war looked great for the Azumi. They were quickly taking territory and beating back the warriors of the Saeki. In this war however, the citizens refused to subjugate themselves and fought back. After the initial push, the Azumi failed to make any more progress and the first surviving evidence of writing from this era was found. A peace treaty was written by two leaders of each army of the warriors. The war ended for the first time in history within the same lifespan it began.
The Azumi changed their focus away from the Saeki and began to expand west, south of the Hida Mountain range. They discovered the Mogami river and surrounding it was a handful of tribes that didn't stand a chance up against the advanced metallurgy of the Azumi warriors. After a quick subjugation of these tribes, the Azumi began building the second city under their control, Shiga.
Kumaso began facing yet another famine. Their farms, while large, were not enough to sustain the whole population of the Kumaso and the constant overhunting of the local wildlife left them in a weak position. To compensate they began consuming the Arctic Eoni with no regard for their preservation of the species. Kumaso soon recovered from the famine after desperately expanding their farms as well as further diversifying the crops they grew. Their own invention of writing and further centralization of their government allowed for a much more efficient distribution of food throughout Kumaso. Unfortunately in their desperation, they completely eradicated the Arctic Eoni.
2800-1896 IC
The Azumi declares itself the Queendom of Azumi and installs a proper government with a ruling monarch who at the time was decided by whoever had the most money. The monarch's first objective was to expand to hold every bit of land that was not claimed by the Saeki starting with the northwest. They experienced explosive growth as their production of war materials was unparalleled by any tribe they came across. Upon reaching the northernmost, and therefore warmest, edges of Krelan they began to encounter more advanced tribes of Humans rather than more Kumo. The humans' weapons and technology could stand up to the Azumi, however having never encountered a Kumo before they were completely unprepared for a war with them. The combination of their speed, agility, strength, and venom made the Azumi people nigh unbeatable by human standards. The humans were largely eradicated from the island of Krelan, the surviving members were used as livestock.
The Saeki, in turn, declared itself the Heavenly Sovereign of Saeki. It stopped expanding and instead focused on developing the territory it already controlled.
The Kumaso became the Empire of Kumaso as the most influential family in Kumaso took control of the organized government in Kakunodate. The Kumo family. With the full control of the southeastern edge of Krelan, the Empress of Kumaso ordered the expanse west. They quickly came across the Queendom of Azumi. Scouts from the Empire of Kumaso observed a small Azumi settlement for weeks. Being that it was the first non-tribal Kumo settlement aside from themselves. They watched as the Azumi conquered an independent tribe with their armor casted legs and brought that information home. Though as soon as the Azumi discovered the Kumaso they began to wage a war. The Azumi had quite a few decisive victories that allowed them to push into Kumaso territory until they were met with the actual force of a Kumaso army. Their spears allowed them to keep distance from the deadly metal claws of the Azumi warriors. The Empire of Kumaso began pushing back against the Azumi hard and fast.
Age of Empires 1896 IC - 401 PI
1896 - 1258 IC
200 year war
The Empire of Kumaso dedicated its entire fighting force to the war with the Queendom of Azumi. After an initial amount of significant progress, the push slowed and territory was taken at a much slower rate. The Empire of Kumaso quickly adopted the armored legs of the Azumi warriors, while the Azumi warriors refused to alter their tactics to include anything other than the armored legs and bows. At the height of the war, the Kumaso warriors were equipped with armored legs, swords, spears, javelins, and bows. While the Azumi never expanded from armored legs and bows. Constant fighting, pushing, territorial claims, internal rebellions, and finally the assassination of their Queen led to the complete subjugation of the Queendom of Azumi.
During the war Kumaso finally made contact with the Heavenly Sovereign of Saeki. Saeki, pleased that someone was pushing back their lifelong enemy, offered material aid and free travel through their lands to fight the Azumi more effectively. These two empires began trading which pushed both into an economic boom. At the end of the war, the Saeki people feared that the Kumaso would turn their focus onto conquering them. Some citizens took to murdering members of the Kumaso military who traveled through their towns and cities. Despite this, the Kumaso never began a war with Saeki.
1258 IC - 100 PI
Age of Prosperity
Many years passed without any major conflicts on the island of Krelan. The two empires contained within continued to trade and work together openly. Eventually, the line between the two nations became so blurred that the Heavenly Sovereign of Saeki eventually asked to join Kumaso peacefully. Kumaso renamed itself to properly honor the Saeki people to Kumosenkan. Now the only Empire on the entirety of Krelan was Kumosenkan. It's citizenry contained exclusively Kumo.
100 - 401 PI
Second Age of Famine
Many years of booming populations, a transition of power away from farming conglomerates to those who produced weapons, luxury goods, and other times, and massive crop failures lead to the first Kumosenkan famine. The Kumosenkan leadership panicked as a lack of food historically resulted in a violent change in power. At the time the people of Kumosenkan believed Krelan to be all there is to the world, and that all that spanned beyond the island was more ocean. However, a scientist came forward with the discovery that the world was in fact round. She even had a very close estimation of the circumference of the planet. Normally, talk of Kumosenkan not being the center of the universe was considered blasphemy, but the empress was desperate for solutions and ordered the immediate construction of ocean-going vessels. Upon their completion, they traveled across the Woodpool sea and quickly discovered the landmass known as Granuras. On it, they discovered several settlements of humans and other demihumans. Initially, the Kumo decimated the settlements they found and abducted their populace to take back home to Kumosenkan to farm. This quickly stabilized the food situation back home, and the abductions slowed down.
401 - 600 PI
After consistently abducting and harvesting humanoids from Granuras, Kumosenkan discovered a well-organized empire of humanoids. Immediately all Kumo were recalled back to the island of Krelan. Out of fear of retaliation, the ocean-going vessels were expanded to become war vessels. Fear spread throughout the Kumosenkan people and military development exploded. The first crossbows were invented, as well as ship-mounted ballista. As well as the first known use of the word "Battleship" in Kumosenkan was applied to the RBS Kakunodate, the first transport ship to be armed with a ballista.
600 - 750 PI
The first Kumo-Human war
Exploration ships from the Kingdom of Avondale left Granuras in search of those who had decimated their coastal populations. By sheer luck, through the aid of the absurd amount of ships Kumosenkan built, the RBS Kakunodate discovered the first of these scout ships. The Avondale ship only had the archers inside to act as the ship's battery, whereas the Kakunodate had a full ballista. The first naval battle in Kumosenkan history lasted for eight hours. It ended after the Avondale ship received two massive blows from the ballista and sunk into the Woodpool sea. Hearing of this success the Empress ordered even more Kakunodate class ships to be constructed. Anytime a Kumosenkan ship discovered an enemy ship, the enemy ship was sunk. Aside from a single time when an Avondale ship rammed a Kumosenkan ship and both were sunk. However, many Avondale ships made landfall on Krelan. Initial invasion forces from Avondale were consistently beaten back by Kumosenkan warriors. The humanoid warriors were completely inexperienced with combating the Kumo race and were easily devastated by them. Over the years, the Avondale landings became more organized and were even able to conquer a few coastal villages. Though their success never lasted long and the Avondale warriors were always beaten back by the Kumo.
Bolstered by their victories on Krelan, Kumosenkan again began invading Granuras. They were able once again to abduct the population of Avondale to farm them. However, these settlements were quickly abandoned by Avondale, and their populations were congregated more inland. Not wanting to overexert their forces, Kumosenkan stopped it's invasions of Granuras and consolidated its focus back to Krelan.
750 - 1349
An age of peace and prosperity for Kumosenkan. The empire largely focused on developing itself and its defensive navy in case of invasion from foreign empires. (Might add more to this later. Am getting burnt out.)
Age of Exploration 1349 - 1767 PI
Kumosenkan begins mass exploration of the entire globe. Upon learning of the mass of other nations in existence Kumosenkan halted its wholesale consumption of other sapient species out of fear of retaliation from more advanced nations. Began the introduction of these species into the citizenry, first as slaves and later as full citizens. Though the consumption of sapient species never stopped fully, it stopped being an official practice of Kumosenkan. Gunpowder was discovered in this time period, and canons were developed. The ships in the Kumosenkan navy began using gunpowder weapons. Not long after the ground forces started becoming equipped with muzzle-loaded firearms.
Age of Industry 1767 - 1910 PI
1767-1869 PI
Through trade, technological development, and espionage Kumosenkan industrialized rapidly. Factories began popping up all over the island. Technological development boomed and Kumosenkan invented the first steam-powered ship. Kumosenkan began transitioning its navy away from wooden unpowered ships to metal coal-powered ships. Having been boxed out of the Staol trades Kumosenkan focused on developing its coal extraction. Having heard of Touli through their trade routes with Ulster-Gaelia Kumosenkan sailed east with their brand new fully coal-powered fleet. Quickly the Kumosenkan fleet discovered the shores of Elenria. In an immediate display of force, the admiral in charge of the fleet ordered the largest ships (which would later be considered light cruisers) to open fire on any emplacements near the shore. The entire military of Elenria surrendered and the Queen herself came to negotiate terms of surrender with the Admiral of the fleet. The admiral wouldn't accept anything less than the total subjugation of Elenria. The Queen was forced to agree as the alternative was a war she had no chance of winning. Thus the Autonomous Kumosenkan Prefecture of Elenria was born. Kumosenkan allowed Elenria to maintain the majority of its autonomy. However, it installed a governor as the Kumosenkan head of government, as well as levied absurd taxes to support the massive amount of food Kumosenkan was importing.
1869-1910 PI
With the signing of the international staol trade, Kumosenkan finally had access to staol. They immediately began constructing more advanced, and more powerful warships. The downside to these new warships was they couldn't reach the colony of Elenria on their own without massive auxiliary fleets to support them. Kumosenkan turned its eyes west to the weaker islands between Kumosenkan and Touli. Kumosenkan took uphold of the island now called Middōei. It was practically uninhabited by sapient life and was therefore undisputed in its territory. Kumosenkan didn't stop there and quickly turned its sights on Hawaii. What should have been a quick and decisive conquering of the Hawaii people turned into a massive conflict when Ulster-Gaelia joined the fight in aid of a free Hawaii.
Age of War 1910 - Current PI
1910-CurrentPI
Kumo-Gaelian War
Ulster-Gaelia decisively won the first battle of Hawaii. Kumosenkan had only deployed a dozen ships to conquer Hawaii as it had expected no naval resistance at all. Eight of the twelve Kumosenkan ships were sunk by about half the royal fleet. News of the destruction of fleet ships, considered holy, set the population of Kumosenkan ablaze in fury. The empire mobilized rapidly and deployed the entire Royal Battle Fleet in a matter of months.
The full might of the Royal Battle Fleet met with the Ulster-Gaelian fleet near Hawaii. This battle was the debut of the first-ever proper modern battleship. The Gaelian cruiser batteries opened fire on the RBS Teki, The first modern battleship, and every single shell that hit the target bounced off the ship's massive armor belt. The RBS Teki returned fire on the Gaelian flagship, a single Fourteen-inch armor-piercing shell made a direct hit to its magazine. The flagship detonated splitting the ship in two. The rest of the battle was a mop-up. The Kumosenkan fleet lost a single cruiser and three destroyers whereas the entirety of the Gaelian fleet that was engaged in the battle was destroyed. The Kumosenkan fleet pushed on to Hawaii, destroying half of the Ulster-Gaelian fleet in the process with minor losses. Kumosenkan took Hawaii and pushed on. Eventually, they destroyed 90% of the Gaelian fleet, and the empire surrendered. By the end of the war, Kumosenkan had produced five Teki Class battleships. The Royal Battle Fleet expanded by almost triple, and with new naval bases on Hawaii and Middōei, the might of the Kumosenkan navy's reach expanded to cover the entirety of the southern half of the planet.
Back home, critics of the battleship were quickly silenced when the news of their dominance on the ocean was broadcast. Big guns and heavy armor became the doctrine of the Kumosenkan fleet.
