Each member of the Free Cities has a different style of society. This is in part due to the confederation style of governance. This can make interaction between people difficult if they do not have an understanding of each city's culture. Hikablum | Geum Hold | Hallas Cavern | Lord/Lady of Hikablum | Master Smith | Chief Artificer | Knight/Dame | Head Smith | Head Artificer | Gentleman/Madam | Smith | Artificer | Butler/Maid | Apprentice Smith | Apprentice Artificer |
The highest level of society are the members of the Alliance Council. Respected by their peers they each have a different method of gaining authority. Hikablum is a hereditary aristocracy, meaning the eldest child inherits the position of Lord/Lady. In Geum and Hallas the Master Smith and Chief Artificer are selected by craft elections. Craft ElectionWhen the term of a Master Smith/Chief Artificer is over a new one is selected in a process known as a Craft Election. Each candidate is tasked with creating the best piece of work they can and once it has been crafted it will be put on display. During display the artisan who created the piece will be kept hidden and every artisan in the city has the right to cast their vote for the best created item. The artisan who created the piece with the most votes wins the election. While in theory this is a blind election in practice it is easy to figure out who created what. This is because many artisans craft the pieces where people can come and view at their leisure or have a distinctive style.
