The Stavka has been surprisingly busy for a time of no war. Dozens of officers were doing various work in the large building, located just minutes away from the Imperial Palace. Phones were ringing, typewriters were clicking, telegraphs were dit-da'ing, papers shuffling, voices talking. All these noises together combined into a discernable hum. Or at least it seemed so to Chief Muravenko, who was looking at it all from behind a wall of glass.
"Muravenko" a voice has torn the old General away from his thoughts. Turning around, he looked at the conference room he was in, with a fresh gaze. The large conference table was as red as ever, if only a bit more dull in color since the first time he stepped foot in this room over 30 years ago. 2 more people in uniforms as ornate as his were sitting at it, along with several other people in less official, but no less ornate civilian clothing.
"Muravenko," the old man at the head of the table repeated. "Were you even listening to be just now?"
"Yes, of course, Chief Kaspechka." Muravenko replied, as he walked back to his seat on one of the sides of the table. "Truly, horrible, it is. And you say we can't do anything about it? What of the Navy?"
An awkward silence has followed. No one was entirely sure what Muravenko has meant by his response which, frankly, had nothing to do with what Kaspechka was talking about.
"What of the Navy?" a third officer replied. "The Navy advices for the Chief of Army to retire!" the man faced Kaspechka. "With all due respect, Sir, this is not the first time Chief Muravenko has had episodes like this. He has served the country well, and more importantly he has served the Emperor well - 2 Emperors, in fact! But now, I'm sure everyone would agree, that age has caught up with him."
"Now listen here you little-" Muravenko was getting ready to stand up again, before being cut off.
"Silence!" the Chief demanded. "Pan Muravenko," he addressed the old general by a slightly less formal honorific instead of his title for the first time in the meeting. "We have served side by side for a long while now. But I'm afraid Yashisenkiv is right."
The Chief of Staff glanced at everyone in the room. "I call a vote. Effecting at the end of today's meeting, Muravenko shall leave his post as Chief of Army, in an honorable retirement, for the rest he has rightfully earned as a life-long loyal servant of Ahinara. All in favor?"
Every single person at the table raised their hand. All except for Muravenko himself.
"It's decided. All, please stand." Everyone followed his order, as Kaspechka himself walked up to Muravenko.
"Ivan Muravenko, as of now you are a retired veteran. We all thank you for your service to the Empire and the Emperor." At those words, everyone has bowed. "Since you are retiring honorably, you keep the right to continue wearing your uniform and carrying your szabla , along with all your decorations."
A few more issues were discussed, mainly, candidates for the now open position of Chief of Army, before the meeting has been ended.

- Stavka - derived from an ancient Ashinaran word meaning "tent", which would be used to refer to the commander's tent in an army camp.
