The Maryland doctrine is that of an Elastic Defense. All Infantry are trained to some degree in what would be a combat engineer course and are adept at making fortifications, though rapid movement is harder to achieve due to the general idea of "Rock in a hard place" leading to a reduced training in more offensive acts. To assist in this, motorized vehicles are slowly being applied to supplement the infantry to help them move quickly.
Tanks are supposedly going to either be Light tanks geared for QRF or Heavies meant to lock areas down, though they are untested within this role as the majority of the structure of the doctrine was made and finalized in the independence war with slight modifications in the border war of '04 before their inception.

The Structure is split between 4 branches. The Army, Navy, Marines, and Airforce.

The Army is partially bolstered by the civilian militias in accordance with the Marrlan Constitution. It is a professional Army that is focused primarily on defense rather than force projection.
The Marines are the primary offensive arm on land and sea and it is not uncommon to see them alongside the Army in land operations. They are a lighter and more maneuverable force geared primarily for assaults despite Marrlan doctrine.

The Navy is self-explanatory. They are part of Marrlan's pride as sailors and project its influence into the deep. Their main claim to fame though is the expeditionary sub-branch named, The Beast Hunters.
Part an exploratory and science-driven force, part a threat containment fleet they specialize in mapping the sea and finding new and dangerous deep-sea creatures that pose a threat to Marrlan and other sapient life. It has been under consideration to become its own branch separate from the navy due to its autonomy within the branch. They mainly operate with submarines and cruisers and have a small detachment of specialized diving marines assigned to them.
The Navy's doctrine is that of a versatile strike force with the largest vessels being limited to cruisers and super cruisers. Battleships while viable, do not work within the faster paced Marrlan doctrine and are superseded by Super Cruisers for their easier ability to manufacture speed and relatively comparable armament.

The Airforce is a fledgling branch. They are not given as much funding as the others, but high command still deems them important and they are given the respect they are due. They are primarily used for scouting, however, they maintain a force of air superiority craft that should, in theory, be able to perform well should they be needed. Many pilots that serve within it have history within the SRS' Aerial Scouting Brigade.
