Koian
Koians are a species of sentient humanoid moths. Their size and appearance changes based on the race of Koian, however all Koians share some generally same features.
Anatomy
External Morphology
Head
All races of Koians have a head. They have two large compound eyes with eight photoreceptors, one which triggers in UV light, two in blue, two in green, two in red, and one in near-infrared light. They have exceptional sight when it comes to bright colors; however, darker colors tend to blend together, making viewing of said colors harder. They have many ommatidia that make up the eye structure. They have pupils which they can close to cover their eyes and protect the organs. Surrounding their eyes, Koians have a set of darker, thinner fur which acts as eyelashes surrounding the eye structure. These eyelashes tend to be thinner on males, maferaxes, and ferixons, while being thicker on females, feraxes, and femions. Females and femions can also have noticeable tails at the outside corner of the eyes.
They have a mouth comparable to a human, consisting of an upper and lower lip which block off the mouth from the elements, thirty-two teeth with sixteen on top and sixteen on the bottom, a tongue with average length of 9.6 in, pharynx, epiglottis, larynx, palette, and esophagus. Due to their similar mouth structure to humans, Koian and Human languages are able to share many similar sounds. Unlike humans, however, while Koians possess canine teeth, the remainder of their teeth are flat like herbivores.
They have a nose above their mouth which consists of a naval cavity with a palette between the cavity and mouth, both of which connect at the rear of the mouth at the entrance to the esophagus via a soft palette. Their nose has some smell receptors, though they are not strong nor nearly as effective as a human's.
On top of their heads, they have two antennae which acts as a stronger smell receptor. The size and shape of their antennae is sex dependent, however it functions fundamentally the same.
Their entire head is covered in a soft fur, with more fur on the top that forms a sort of hair like on humans.
Body
The body of a Koian is similar to a human's in general shape, however possesses a few key differences. Compared to a human's four limbs, a Koian has eight limbs: four arms, two legs, and two wings, the latter of which will be gone over later. Each arms consists of a shoulder, where it connects to the torso, an elbow joint, and a wrist joint, which ends in a hand. [WIP]

Internal Morphology
Reproductive System
The reproductive systems of Koians are based on their genetics, which has three variants. Are sexes of Koian contain at least one Z chromosome, but then have some combination of X, Y, or Z chromosomes. Koians have two sets of reproductive organs, a standard set like the human reproductive system and a second set within their abdomen. The differences in these layouts produce the various sexes of the Koian species.
A chromosome pairing of YYZ creates a Koian Male.
A chromosome pairing of YZZ creates a Koian Maferax.
A chromosome pairing of YXZ creates a Koian Femion.
A chromosome pairing of XXZ creates a Koian Female.
A chromosome pairing of XZZ creates a Koian Ferax.
A chromosome pairing of XYZ creates a Koian Ferixon.
Digestive System
The Koian digestive tract is similar to that of a human. Koians have a single mouth in which they use to intake food. Their teeth are designed like herbivores save for two canines, meaning their diet is largely vegan in nature. Some Koians will venture as far as vegetarian, consuming eggs or dairy, but most tend to avoid even this. Their mouth leads down through the esophagus to the stomach, where food is processed. From there, the digested food is taken through the small intestines and the large intestines before ending at the anus. I really shouldn't have to explain the human digestive system, right? It just kind of works in its biological magical way.
Circulatory System
The Koian circulatory system is largely similar to that of a human's save for that they have two hearts. One heart's primary function is circulation of blood to the internal organs, while the other's primary function is the circulation of blood to limbs and extremities. The two systems are interconnected by smaller veins and capillaries, but the major arteries do not directly cross.
Respiratory System
The Koian respiratory system is the same as a human's. Koians breathe in through their nose or mouth, which fills the lungs with oxygen. This oxygen is transferred to the blood, while carbon dioxide is removed from the blood. This carbon dioxide is then exhaled through the nose or mouth.
Reproduction and Life Cycle
Mating
Due to their insectoid nature, Koians go through a yearly reproductive cycle. While Koians are capable of sex and conceiving a child any time of the year, most all Koians follow a cycle of conceiving in late summer to early autumn.
Eggs
Eggs will begin to form within the mother two to seven days after mating. On average, a Koian will have between seven to twelve eggs at one time, though accounts exist of as little as two eggs and as high as twenty-five eggs. The eggs will remain inside the mother for approximately forty to fifty days before they are ready to be laid. Eggs are usually laid with the help of an aiqueir, or loosely translated "water mother", who are essentially nurses trained in helping those who need it to give birth.
These eggs are laid and then can go to one of four places.
> Of the more modernized regions of the country, families tend to hold onto the eggs and place them in a specific room of the house that becomes dedicated to the care and storage of the eggs.
> For those who have eggs they do not wish to care for, there are special locations, essentially orphanages, that will take care of the eggs.
> In some of the lesser developed areas, such as the still roving tribes in the plains, all eggs across every family in the tribe are kept in the same tent. Families will create a "blanket" or two, depending on how many eggs they have, and this allows their eggs to be identified during care. These blankets also act as hammocks to carry the eggs easier when the tent is packed up when the tribe needs to move.
> In particularly dangerous areas where there are roaming tribes, tribes will dig a large cellar-like area with at least three to five feet of soil between the surface and the ceiling of the room. Similar to the tent of the other tribes, the eggs are placed into the room on the "blanket" hammocks, and stored there throughout the winter. These cellars are marked by a two flags, usually a simple sheet with the symbology of the greater tribe and either the name of the community or another symbol representing the community. Once the cellar is made, the community will remain in a general area around it, checking up on the cellar once to twice a day, depending on distance.
The eggs will grow slowly over the late autumn and winter months, usually hatching in very late winter to the middle of the spring. Eggs are laid late in the year such that the larvae don't drain the small resource reserves of the community. "Early borns", or "premature births", are those who hatch prior to the winter ending.
The eggs themselves are similar in consistency to a solid gelatin. They are squishy to the touch, and usually spherical with a starting diameter of around one inch, and over time will increase to around six inches across as the egg nears the end of this stage.
Larvae
The Larvae stage, also known as the infancy stage, occurs just after Koians hatch from their eggs. The caterpillars are approximately five to seven inches long, or around the size of the average human hand, when they first hatch. They will slowly eat and grow over the course of six years, the average caterpillar ending this stage around one and a half to two feet long.
Cocoon
After six years of infancy, the caterpillar will cocoon themselves in a thick blanket of silk during mid- to late-autumn. Again, like, the eggs, the cocoons are stored in either special room of the house or in a special tent of the tribe to keep them safe while they metamorphosize. They will remain in this state over the winter, hatching in the early- to mid-spring.
