Peace. Peace and quiet was all Major Watt wanted on the morning of his weekend. The week had been long, with a slew of proposals to go over and conferences to attend. Surely there would be peace for him this day. He slipped out of bed carefully, doing his best not to disturb his sleeping wife as he did, before brushing his teeth and quietly descending to the ground floor. He opened the door, greeted by an amber sunrise and the chirping of birds as they went about their day. Major Watt picked up the newspaper that waited for him on his porch, then stepped into the kitchen and set a kettle of water to boil, eager for a cup of tea. He had just started reading the paper when the all-too-familiar chime of his telephone stopped him. With a reluctant sigh, the man stood from his seat and walked over to the wall, picking up the phone and holding the horn to his ear. "If you're calling me at this hour of the morning to let me know that someone somewhere has decided we need to meet about mother-knows-what, tell him to shove it." He said to the caller, not even allowing them a moment to address him.
"Sir, there's been a... development, in the Union of South Touli. There are a bunch of tribals piling up on the border seeking refuge within Eleria. Our men have been retaining border security, and given the terrain in the area our manpower isn't exactly strained, but more and more are showing up every day. The Captain on post Glen Shaw is looking for orders, sir." The voice on the other end of the line replied, carrying a distinct tone of urgency.
With a sigh, Major Watt considered his options. "Contact the Ministry of Foreign Relations, have them send a few agents to set up a processing center. Let our border be as a steel wall, if they want to join the Imperium, they'll have to go through all the normal channels. Standard directives remain in effect, nobody enters Eleria without approval."
"Aye sir." Replied the voice, hanging up the phone. Major Watt gave a sigh and walked back to the now squealing kettle of water, hopefully that would be the last interruption for the day. If he was lucky, he could escape long enough to do a bit of fishing.
