North Eastern Rovuellia - The Mountain Passage/Skopje Trade Rail
Near the Border of Tanus
It's an annual event really, and they televise it. Why? Money, viewership, patriotism, a slew of reasons. Some people say the night time live fire exercises done on the mountains is pretty, others like to watch it, even try to find their son's and daughters in uniform if they think they can. News interviews are common place too, all too.. ordinary really. Strange for a professional fighting force to be constantly shadowed by hordes of reporters, newspaper writers, journalists.. frankly it was common practice to have city police deal with people, but because of the nature of today's exercises, and in fact the recent slew of exercises overall, they weren't letting people in. Sure, it was televised, but at a great distance. The shots could be seen, but not the people, guns barely visible against the darkness of usual grey of Rovuellia's normally cloudy and snow-sprinkling sky.
It'd be late in the night, now onto the night time assault exercises. SITOC and ONI, both two intelligence services, were patrolling the area around the mountains, while the live fire exercises against targets in the mountain went on through the night, the tracer rounds slapping into the dirt and rock and releasing plumes of dust and sometimes smoke. Tiny fires raged from mortar strikes, and infantry men, artillery and tanks meandered about in the darkness, more or less just.. shifting around in the darkness as they let their compatriots on the larger guns unload into the mountains for the night. None of them had any targets left to blow apart, and all the remaining ones were in the ranges beyond, behind deep cover. It was uncertain why they had been training for mountain warfare so much, and especially offensive warfare as well.
Despite curiosity even the NCO's had no real idea, just following orders. Expending ammo, wasting the time, letting the snow fall and marching through it. It was simply the norm really for many of them anyway. As they continued to unload into the mountain side, it'd not be long before they would call the cease fire, the guns no longer blazing away at the dirt. The exercises would be called for the night, for the regular army and marines anyway, as SITOC and ONI's pet units would begin to take their spots. Their size, their armament, they were certainly beasts. As the targets would be replaced by logistics staff and operations specialists, the Valklears and the Naval Infantry would begin to set up their own gun emplacements and positions as the Army cleared out for the night.
Old tanks no longer fit for service would be driven into the mountains for a few hours, and then by Dawn, they were ready. Well they had been ready for hours, but it had taken awhile to set up the targets and all. The fire unleashed from this small force was fairly immense for such a size, tearing apart tanks, old airplanes flown in by radio-based telemetry control and old emplacements, structures, prefabricated target buildings, so on. Within about an hour the mountain side was ablaze with light as green magnesium fires raged over it, and rounds just kept hammering down, pummeling the area into little more than dust and smoothing out the face.
Adrian Potrinko, President of Rovuellia, watched from a command post. At his side sat three black furred Festria, two seemingly female, one a male. They watched alongside them through binoculars, the Festria scanning the mountains while Potrinko looked over the valley below.
"I can hardly see where they're firing from. I could see the army almost perfectly from here." They'd say.
"The Valklears are good at hiding. They always have been." Thanatos would answer, all three of them speaking at once. "ONI and SITOC made sure that the Naval Infantry and Valklears could handle any task required of them."
"They did, yeah.. can't see any of them right now. If it weren't for the muzzle flashes.." They'd say. "..And they completely swept that mountain side in the first thirty minutes of the exercise. Pummeled all of our targets into dust like they were nothing."
"The investment seems to have been worth it, I think."
"Now if only there wasn't just nine thousand of them."
The three black furred Festria would nod their heads in unison, before they turned set down the binoculars, and would cup their hands together, laying back as the gunfire began to steadily die down. Flares would be launched into the sky around again to signal a stop, and before long things came to an end, and they would all set about packing up.

Rovuellian Capital City of Paneria
"Any major military action to outright attack and colonize other countries would be seen as imperialism and give the other nations around us plenty reason to attack us if they saw so fit."
"Which is why, dear Thana, we aren't going to embark on any significant and daring acts of military conquest. We can't sustain long term warfare right now anyway, and as it stands we'll fair far better using our might to Cow others into submission, or better yet, to make them lower their guard."
"How do we make them lower their guard though..?"
"Economics, promises, and vassal states." Adrian would say, turning to the map to his right. "We pacify them by making them our friends, and we absorb them with promise and delivery of prosperity. We pick the most ripe for the action, and we integrate them, bit by bit until they're dependent on us and we take them as colonies." They would say. "They'll become ours. Allied to us, aligned to our will, and politically and militarily dependent on us for their protection. Our military, while smaller than others, is one of thee if not thee most well equipped fighting force on Ouhiri. It's entirely feasible as a plan of action."
Thanatos, all three of them, would look to the map, and then at the President, before crossing their arms. "And how are we supposed to go about this then? The only one this could be feasibly done with right now Is Tanus. And Tanus isn't particularly good of a choice to just annex. Something would have to happen that gave us such significant sway that we could outright instigate a popular revolution, and a bloody coup would be the undoing of it all anyway. Especially one led by us."
"That's why we make it bloodless. At least on the surface, bloodless, anyway." They'd cross their legs.
"It's difficult to make something like that just.. bloodless." They'd tell them.
"Hence we need to give them and ourselves something in the way of.. a common enemy. We don't even have to make that enemy either, we just need to bring it all into the light." He would say, before he would lift up a manila folder from a stack of such on his desk, and set it down, it spilling photos out across the desk. Symbols, faces, weapons, species, government officials, all were mixed together in this mass evidence folder. "All we need to do, is drag the evil to the light, and proclaim in some roundabout way that we're saviors." He would tell them. The Lykoi then looked back at the three Festria, of whom stared at the mess of photos for a good half a minute before they would lay back slowly into their chair, eyes rising to meet Adrian's again.
"How are we supposed to do this?" They'd ask them.
"SITOC is already pondering that. They have been for awhile. How do you think we got all the photos?"
The three black furred Festria would stand up after a moment, and stretch out individually, before turning and heading towards the door. "I'm sure that they know what to do then.." They'd say. "I'm going to go home early, I'm feeling like shit." They'd tell them, before all of them walk out of the door, and shut it quietly behind them. Adrian would clean up his desk, and then settle back into his seat to watch the TV and read over proposed legislation.

Thanatos passed by the myriad of Guards and staff that were in the halls outside the central complex, which itself was a heavily fortified interior station of sorts. The whole building itself was the Citadel, and it served as the Capitol building, the national assembly, the senate building, and in old world history, it had been the fortress that held the first victims, or rather generation of the Orchestra in conception. It had six layers of walls that had been rebuilt again and again, and it had as well made the structure one of the most heavily fortified conventional fortresses on the planet, albeit without much in the way of an armament now and made mostly of stone. It'd still be formidable as an obstacle in any conventional conflict, but as it stood there was no need to use it for its initially intended purpose.
Rather instead, within the confines of it had spawned what became the interior-governance sector of the Panerian region. It was the administrative body for the city as well, and the city council was in layer four, while less important bureaus and governmental agencies occupied the interior, and the military took the two frontal layers. It all served as one big museum and shopping mall as well, further adding to its already immense bulk and giving it a strange and in many ways unappealing modern-medieval hybrid aesthetic.
It didn't disgust, it wasn't necessarily too displeasing, and most people seemed content with it. Thanatos herself, or.. themselves, rather, wouldn't be too much a fan of it. The prosperity it was a sign of, they liked, but they didn't enjoy the strange melding, and had stated many a time that they would have preferred a law be passed that structures built within the confines of the Citadel be made to match its design, though frankly such would have been a little bit much and they admitted such openly too.
Their walk in the park as they called it, a daily event, would continue as they made their way along the side of a cobble stone sidewalk, next to a asphalt road of which cars following one of the many large roads that lead through the gateways in the citadel. They reached a bridge over said river of asphalt as the cars continued along, stopping only when the lights would flick on and off to halt them, and then making their way up and over, to the other side. Soon they reached the edge of a smaller cobble stone fort of which within was a park, open to all, barred to none. The Army Corps of Engineers was out in force that day, litter was gone, the signs looked squeaky clean, any damage to the walls had already been repaired or was being fixed up.
One of many things Thanatos could happily say was right with their world - At least everything important was kept functional. The Army Corps of Engineers performed a important task, keeping jobs such as Park Rangers, Maintenance and Technical Crews, basic infrastructure maintenance, so on, all staffed and operational. Without it, it wouldn't be frankly as nice as it was now. The Army, like many other government agencies, had a particular role in helping in peace time to keep things rolling along. Selling off surplus to use in its budget rather than getting loans, opening up job postings with the ACE, assisting the Navy and commercial agencies with infrastructure construction and protection, even helping to build major bridges and highways, not that there was really much need for that anymore given all the major and even most of the less notable populated areas of the country had a highway link now.
The Wealth of Rovuellia was really astounding to Thanatos, and more so that they somehow helped bring it to be. 60 years ago this was a war torn stretch of barren land with few remaining houses and artillery craters as far as the eye could see. Now it was the capital of a great nation that while small, stood as potent economic and military force. It helped a good deal that any foreign power had to either fight turbulent Northern seas and ice sheets or go through hellish mountains that only they had recent 'tamed', though that was mostly because they had some paths and roads, as well as a couple highways, through them that were regarded as 'relatively safe'. The mountains that separated by land most of the world from the semi-isolationist Rovuellian nation had always, would always, and never would not be, dangerous to any and all.
Meandering their way through the three-in-one package that was this oversized black furred Festria trio would go and sit down on the same bench, all of them looking up at the distant form of a statue erected 50 years ago, of six men hoisting up a pole with the Rovuellian flag waving from it, such having been waving for fifty years on. It had been the same flag since then too, constantly refurbished and repaired, treated with honor and dignity like the symbol of a nation should be. It was the first ever Rovuellian flag, and always superseded all other Rovuellian flags on the order of Hierarchy, even the flag of the federal government. Crossing their legs all at the same time, they would relax into their seats, and then take out a small envelope.
The male body would raise it up, and then open it. They'd read its contents, and the three bodies would do the same repeatedly, before too long they would stand up and make their way off. Heading away, they all went back to the capital building, and before long they would soon come into contact with a couple other Festria, both wearing entirely black uniforms and berets, with black fur and yellow eyes. Both wore the ONI emblem, though only one had a SITOC symbol on their beret, hinting the other was Naval Infantry. They'd step past them, and the two would close the door behind the three, letting them head back inside of this bunker complex below for whatever task they might be setting about.

Rovuellian Arms Trials Concluded
Concluded on the sixth officially, the arms factories of the Intaki Consortium, a lesser known non-state corporation oriented around the production of lighter armored vehicles for the military, has officially been recognized as a viable contractor with the adoption of their BMP designs by the Rovuellian army, of which several thousand have been ordered to replace the aging fleet of T-60's still in service, of which will be sold off to PMCs, and given to the Citizen's Folks Army, or Volksarmee, for use by such entities, as well as too civilians and militias. Part of the reason for the change is that the vehicles are considered to be more useful than the T-60 overall, able to act as both infantry carriers and in effect, as proper fire support platforms and IFVs/AFVs, and can as well perform the same role of the T-60 in combat as well, albeit they are not as fast for the most part and such was recognized.
The Rovuellian Army has as well adopted a new tank design, called the T-72, of which has demonstrated it can prove to be quite a heavy hitting but decently quick tank, and demonstrated rather exceptional adaptability and its modular design has struck a few cords.
The Rovuellian army recently as well has shifted its focus entirely to quality - and their doctrine and designs have adapted as such to support such a doctrine. With the Rovuellian armed forces shifting their focus entirely to producing quality equipment, and utilizing that effectively, as well as the shift to Combined Arms Warfare in the best sense possible. Such will be done by utilizing all arms of the military to produce a well supported and powerful fighting force capable of responding to generally any threat that can be produced and brought to bare against the brave men and women of Rovuellia.
The Rovuellian Air Force recently accepted contracts from several small companies to produce several state of the art jet powered aircraft, and murmurs of a new design being thought up by a coalition of Air Force scientists and corporate scientists has been circulating, this being for a new and more powerful jet engine and a plane of which could mount it. These new craft will be exclusively jet powered, and their focus will be on replacing the propeller reliant aircraft with these new jet aircraft. The Navy, Marines, Army and Air Force, alongside border guard and secretary of military matters/affairs have all agreed to adopt a new design of combat helicopter and as well a new transport helicopter, recognizing the helicopter fleet to have potential and seeing the value in expanding it.
The first of these designs is a Attack helicopter, armed with rocket pods and a machine gun, called the Hind by its designer. It's primary role is to act as a support vehicle and anti-tank platform, as well as generally a good platform for clearing out large pockets of resistance from the air, via launching large barrages of rockets from its rocket pods and tearing apart barriers, weak materials and cover and with that infantry via its machine gun, and if need be it can even be equipped with bombs dropped from its wings. The second design is the Mil-Mi 01, a transport helicopter of which is primarily going to be used to deploy infantry and carry cargo/materials, and sometimes the components to light vehicles.
Upgraded models of the Katyusha and a new Ogram MLRS have been adopted and their designs will be phased in steadily, older ones moved to the Citizen's army or simply sold off to other countries or PMCs.
Finally, a new Battle Dress Uniform, new infantry equipment in the form of single-person two-way radios and new infantry protection in the form of 'plate carriers', shoulder plating, knee pads and armored shin guards have all been adopted. Regulations on melee weapons were as well adjusted. A new infantry weapon has as well been adopted to replace current models of the AK-47, the AK-73M, made entirely from steel but retooled to be just as reliable and have just as much functionality.
This concludes this Readout.

Adrian, or Adryan as he was largely known, sat in the presidential suite, examining the recently laid plans for a mountain pass defensive network. Though it seemed unnecessary, it was proposed before, and while largely considered unnecessary, the military figured it would be a viable defense should there come a point where they would ever need to defend the mountain passage. It called for wiring each and every bridge in the mountains to explode, setting up explosives that could trigger an avalanche at every conceivable and feasible point, building forts and gun positions, some with sixteen inch cannons, in the mountains to cover the valleys below, and building missile launchers and as well, establishing numerous new military bases within the area.
It was certainly a plan, but again, the 'is this necessary' part of it came into question. Already a formidable defense on their own, the mountains had been used to great effect in the Sundering wars and many a conflict prior, it wasn't necessary to further fortify them with permanent emplacements that would be expensive to maintain and were set up for an unlikely 'If'. The mountains could, worst case scenario, become a killing ground and testing area for the many chemical and biological weapons that Rovuellia had engineered and even used in prior conflicts, though they would never openly admit to the act, even if it was almost a open secret.
He'd look down at the next report on his desk, and then look up at the man ahead of him as they would pick up a phone, a mere second after it had begun to ring. He had barely registered it, having only noticed the man's reaction, not the noise itself. It'd simply just passed right through his ears. He'd look at them and watch as they nodded their head, a smile appearing on their features, the Demi-Festri putting the phone down after replying to the person on the other side.
"Our ambassador called. The treaty has been signed. Op-CSAT is a success." They would say, smiling to the President, of whom would smile back at them. "..Wonderful. State dinner invites?"
"No reply to that yet, we'll get one in the hour hopefully."
"Alrighty." He'd look down at the next report, and then after a moment, lay back in his seat and set the papers down. "..Hopefully this grants us a extra blanket of security, and Fenvaria too. Better together than alone, aye?"
"Aye." The man nods his head.
"..Production orders are in." He would say. "Tanks and Helicopters, some jets too." They would say. "Perfect. Just not as many as I was hoping to try and pump out." They would say.
"Hopefully once we have the Ural facility finished, we can devote those resources into producing more vehicles and equipment, and start up a recruitment drive with that too. It shouldn't be too hard, after all."
Adryan nods. "Yes, there is the Ural facility. That goes well. What of Tiphares?"
"Much of Tiphares is already operational, though the last of the major civilian and one of the last military facilities has to be finished before they can service any ships and handle equipment and freight. We could feasibly open the Shipyard and docks now, and start churning out cargo ships and warships at a quick rate, even take on a greater trade presence with them, which I assume was part of the plan."
"Yes, yes, that's part of the plan, yeah." They would nod their head. "..What of the Lusatian diplomat?"
"No status, Thanatos hasn't called."
"Ah, alright." They'd turn back to the desk. "...When can we expect to start receiving visitors from South-bound?" They'd ask.
"Sometime in the next month maybe. It'll be a bit before the information trickles down to the rest of our two nations. Nothing is instant, even with radio."
Adryan nods. "Yeah. Alright, well. Guess all there is to do is sit back and enjoy this little high point before we gotta get back to the grind of it, huh.."
The other nods, and then settles in their seat for a bit, still reading another report.

The Ural Research Facility, and its Promise of new advancements
Ever since the founding of Rovuellia in the year 1898, Rovuellia has experienced a technological golden age compared to what was its original stagnation. The region Rovuellia sits behind is mired in mountains and treacherous terrain, and this both acted as a barrier to expansion for powers behind these mountains, and a shield, but it did as well isolate the region in more detrimental ways. One such way was the advancement of technology, and as Rovuellia was closed off by nature and by policy in its at the time many city states and leagues of small nations, the proliferation of technology across the barrier was rare, and it only picked up during the Staol Wars, when the tech began to filter in thanks to the rise of traders and several attempts at invasion by foreign powers, some done by the sea as well. These conflicts would yield access to and ways to replicate the technology needed for gunpowder rifles, leading quickly to discarded muskets and then repeating rifles, and then to proper bolt action and semi-automatic rifles.
This as well led to new forms of agriculture as well as Conver Limis, founding state of the nation, would send explorers and educated men out to acquire the plans and information necessary to produce more, often sending them into war zones with their own escorts to find anything of value on a technical level and bring it back for study. It yielded great results, even though the cost of life was high, and as well this was sought to be dealt with. Eventually open trade would be used as the means to gain access to new technology, a term for entrance into the Staol railroad agreement with Ida Koi being information. This information alongside other bits of info would be used to help catapult Rovuellia forwards, and as well make a nation reliant on Oil all the more powerful from its seeming uniqueness - We do not need the powdered fuel, unlike many others, and that makes us strong in doing so. We are self-reliant.
The Ural Research Facility has made that all the more maintainable, or at the least it promises to be. Opening the day before this article is published, the facility is a jointly operated but primarily military run facility located in Conver Limis. It's purpose officially and unofficially is to act as a general research facility, but rumors say that its use is more geared towards advanced weapons or finding new and more deadly usages for resources such as chemical stores, further weaponizing things like Chlorine gas, mustard gas, corrosive agents and so on as well as biological agents. This isn't confirmed however, and its likely we'll never have a very straight answer from the government on the topic - seemingly something fine with most, albeit disconcerting to plenty, given the nature of the rumor and the potentially disastrous consequences that can have.
The facility is as well focused on other things, such as the creation of better weapon systems, and as well with that, disseminating any civilian applicable tech to the masses at a rather low cost in doing so, both to fund the facility and to help fund experiments and projects themselves to take a bit of the burden off of the tax-payer and the military's budget. Their current roster of projects is unknown, and likely we'll never know, but what they put out their might hint as to what they're toying with, though they may keep the more important things under-wraps until they're either done with them, or they can find a way or pick a time that it is best to release whatever supporting technology or skunkworks/side developments they feel are worth sending out to the rest of us, without compromising the nature of their more top-secret activities.
The facility could be a huge boon to science and technological development, and they are offering research partnerships to any Rovuellia based research firm of which wishes to partner with them on their projects, under some rather strict Non-Disclosure agreements and such as well, though with this they also promise to release antidotes, vaccines, medication and pharmaceuticals that they might develop, as they do have to deal with harmful chemicals regardless and may seek to find means of alleviating symptoms or dealing with the illness itself. Though this itself may not be a focus, and might just be a side-effect. They are likely as well to focus on the development of new, more stable explosive mixtures to put into bombs. It is though unknown what their plans are, again.
The biggest question is if it'll deliver, but such is believed to be pre-ordained - we'll get something out of it. Hopefully.
The Signing of the C-SAT Agreement / Entering the Alliance with Fenvaria
CSAT was signed in Stay, 1960. The agreement is focused around a mutual cooperation focus and mutual defense acknowledgement - Fenvaria and Rovuellia will trade with one another, share information, and defend one another. Fenvaria and Rovuellia had a initially rocky start in the 1800s, before Rovuellia truly came into its own and isolated itself. Despite the fact we tried to keep to ourselves, Fenvaria was still there and a lot easier to reach than Rovuellia might typically be - but Fenvaria was a southern neighbor, as much as they were a barrier. In the end, it was pre-destined that there would be interaction between the two great nations, and such came to be. The early 1910s saw basic trade agreements as well as some relatively new changes to Rovuellia as we started to pump more oil from the ground and would in a bid to build some relations, share some with Fenvaria, at the time more developed than us but in need of greater fuel.
Rovuellia and Fenvaria would in the years to come eventually forge greater ties as both sides warmed up to the other, leaving what had been at the time traditionally frosty relations and eventually establishing a meeting area in jointly owned land, a Fenvaria built castle that would be repeatedly fought over in the years before Rovuellia's founding by the old clans of the South and Fenvaria's northern populace, seeing it become the site for historical agreements between the two countries that would shape their future and build from what had been a frosty, cold start, a warm atmosphere of friendship. By the 1950s both countries were prospering, and Rovuellia was quickly becoming more and more advanced and powerful, as was Fenvaria. The atmosphere of friendship eventually turned to sentiments for, at the extreme, unification, though in the more prevalent moderate position, some form of cooperation on a more fundamental level.
The idea was kicked around for years on both sides, but Rovuellia last month made the move, and the treaty was presented. The treaty to the liking of Fenvarian ambassadors and diplomats, it was signed and comes into affect this month, after the end of Stay. Fenvaria and Rovuellia have entered into the CSAT agreement, pledging to defend one another and to trade information and goods, as well as allow the free passage of people between their two states, bolstered by a relatively common mindset in terms of the culture and as well having some common goals.
Rovuellia widely hopes, and we hope that Fenvaria does too, that this Alliance will stand the test of time, and lead to beautiful things in both nation's futures.
Rovuellian Paramilitary Corporations on the Rise
Rovuellia has strong military traditions, going back thousands of years, to well before even the Lykoi crept out from the mountains and the Turanics arrived on the shores in paddle boats. The first inhabitants of this land, the Festria, were always a martial people, brought on first by warring with each other, then with the humans, and then with everyone else, before eventually the ethnic groups became muddled and things mixed and things became much more culturally linguistic than they were simply ethnic - It formed cultures with deep roots and a unwavering hold over the minds of men and women alike regardless race. It was their national identity, and while it would morph, it would never really change some things about Rovuellian cultures. That deep down, every Rovuellian was expected to at the least know how to march and to carry and use properly some form of weapon, regardless if it was a spear, pike, mace, battle-axe, or a double barreled shotgun and bolt action rifle.
The peoples of Rovuellia are a inherently martial though not warlike bunch, but sometimes that can be muddled or changed for some - it shows in how veterans of the great war of unification, or the Sundering Wars that came before it that led to Rovuellia's founding, sometimes simply can't let go. Such is fine, if redirected and used properly for the good of others, and such is really the goal they say with the Rise of the Rovuellian Paramilitary Complex, or RPC as they call it. This has come about with the creation first of many Internationally capable Rovuellian operated and owned Private Military Contractors, and then the conglomerates that have recently forced, one such being the Altis Conglomerate of which has recently built up a reputation as a efficient and well oiled machine, thanks to the cash its accumulated from having many private security agencies in its confines that play security in neighborhoods in the disadvantaged areas of Rovuellia, or fighting the Ferals of the deep North as security for villages under government contracts, or sometimes private contracts.
Another, Tripod Conglo., has made itself widely known for its excellent use of law enforcement tactics mixed with military combat tactics to make a effective overseas policing force, and for dealing with terrorism and asymmetric warfare. These companies have recently attained military hardware of relatively high grade, due to the military beginning to sell off its old stocks of equipment to companies, citizens, and militias alike, leading to the general rise of a growing portion of citizens, security forces, police forces as well, all being given military grade gear or buying it from the army/marines in abundance. As it stands, it isn't really known where they'll be deploying, but rumor has it that Tripod and Altis might be conspiring to go to Weracht, and fight against Reginia in a bid to try and liberate southern Weracht alongside their forces, or maybe to do the opposite, though such is merely rumor and the circulation is fairly new and not addressed by either corporation. As of yet, anyway.
