Ever expansion of trade (UKUG-Zarich)

Minister McCaig was looking over his agenda for the new year, the Ministry of Trade requested expansion of trade in the Southern continental region. While risky it made sense, the Amali and Pommazannikki deals were rather lucrative for the UKUG and it pressed passive pressure on their rival Kumosenkan. McCaig decided the next nation to approach would be Zarich, the nation was rich in technology and the smartest minds in Ouhiri resided there, if the UKUG could gain anything from them it had to be done well.

He assigned Ambassador Janice Campbell a newer but very promising ambassador in his ministry to head the mission. He would pen a letter to Zarich requesting a meeting between them and her to discuss possible trade and formal diplomatic relations.

Zarich's open door trading and relations policy meant that a response was quickly dealt to the UKUG. The director of foriegn affairs, Professor Anaïs Biedermann, assigned herself to the case and invited Ambassador Janice to her college for a meeting between the two.

Campbell reviewed her assignment from her assigned office aboard the HMS Spailpín a UKUG corvette delivering her to Zarich, she was slightly nervous it being her first solo assignment. She had studied the Zarich language and hoped everything would be perfect, the corvette requesting docking rights and would follow the Zarich policies concerning foreign ships entering port. 

Janice would make her way to the college where Professor Anaïs Biedermann was to meet her.

Janice was welcomed by a group of young elementary students who had created a wildly colorful banner and hung it from the higher floors of Biedermann College of Foreign Affairs. Below it Professor Anaïs Biedermann along with her entourage of teacher's assistants waited. With a quick greeting, Biedermann brought the UKUG diplomat to her personal office. "It is my pleasure to welcome you to Zarich, Madam Campbell. I understand you are looking to further open up trade agreements between the two of us, yes? How may I aid in that?"

Campbell waved kindly at the elementary students and cheerfully thanked them for their welcome, once inside the office she would respond to Bidermann's query "The United Kingdom wishes to establish continued trade relations with Zarich, we would like to propose lower tariffs to increase the influx of products between our ports and incentivize private companies to conduct business down here. We are also interested in Zarich technology and research resources, the realm finds your nation to have...quite the leap ahead in Ouhiri when it comes to all things research and education."

She would slightly straighten her tartan before asking to take a seat within the office.

"Zarich continues to pride itself on our technological prowess. Though you must be aware that it is part due to our impartiality. We make no alliances. That's what makes others feel safe sharing their technologies with us." Biedermann answered gesturing towards the seat . "With that said as I'm sure you're aware, Zarich is always in rather desperate need of raw and refined materials. Lowering tarrifs sounds like a wonderful start to our business. We could be willing to lower our out of state tuition costs for students coming from the UKUG in our colleges."

“A fair practice, I believe we can agree to that condition. Our people have much to learn from yours. And hopefully we can fulfill any needs Zaria requires. Is there anything else I can interest you in?”

"A guarantee of our independance." Biedermann said. "We may not be under threat now but a guarantee from you could prevent our neighbors from eyeing us up."

Campbell nodded, “we could do that, in exchange for assisted development with carrier technology and aircraft tech. A fair deal for UKUG support, we could even position part of the Royal fleet and military here if need be.”

"I apologize but no. We cannot assist you with technological development unless you return the favor with technologies we do not already have our hands on. Nor do we need or want your military in our ports or borders. That would reek of alliance and I worry how those across the pond might perceive that."

“Understandable, I’m sure I can see if parliament can approve a promise of neutrality. At the very least the UKUG isn’t interested in interfering with Zarich politics.”

"I very much appreciate your understanding. I wish not to put the squash on mutual technological development. Zarich would just need a comparative gift in technology before we could begin."

"What sort of technology would Zarich be interested in?"
