THE ROSKANAN MARINES
Oppressos liberare, dictatores prosternere
WHEN DIPLOMACY FAILS, MARINE FORCES PREVAIL
In ancient times, the term marines was used to refer to the infantry who fought from aboard ships of the line, and the ancient sail ships that plied the seas of Reseria and Granuras.
However now in the modern day the definition has changed, to represent something different. A force always ready to fight regardless of the nation's readiness for war. It's gone by many names in the past.
The Tsar's blade. The Fist of Roskana. But its only true official name, its only name throughout all of time, has remained the same.
The Roskanan Marines serve as Roskana's primarily forwards striking element, operating closely with the Roskanan army and the Roskanan Navy, of which it is a component service of the latter. It's purpose throughout history has always been to act as the offensive spearhead of Roskana's armed forces, able to lash out and deal damage to any hostile force that would dare to threaten their home, or otherwise serving as the means through which Roskana projects its power.
Marine forces include a fledgling aviation branch, a large ground force that itself could rival and overwhelm many state militaries, and a dedicated naval transport component service as well as sea-based fire support from the Roskanan Navy and jointly operated warships.
Selected from the ranks of other services and trained to marine standards, the Roskanan Marine Corps is a ruthless, aggressive and brutal force that is designed and aimed towards the aim of achieving rapid breakthrows through the application of extreme and overwhelming force on the enemy, breaking through their lines, and then aiming to ruthlessly slaughter their leadership as well as encircle their forces. However they are as well equally tasked with taking and then holding beachheads while reinforcements from the army are brought in, or with spearheading counter-attacks against hostile forces, as they famously did in the Grinvel-Roskana Border War in the early 1900s.
Wherever Roskana goes to war, be it to topple oppressive dictatorships and kingdoms, or to defend themselves, one can always be assured that the fighting line will be made up of Roskanan Marines.
