Military strategists and planners have long been wanting to motorize the Royal Army. With the current state of the Ashinaran industry, however, it was impossible, so they were limited to purchasing equipment from abroad, for now. It was now, during the slog at the Ferville Meatgrinder, that the Ministry of War has decided that the tankettes purchased from UKUG would not be enough. They are too few and way, way too expensive - as a result the frontline commanders are hesitant to use them, afraid that they will be destroyed before doing much. Looking for a cheaper alternative, they have had an epiphany. Automobiles are also known as horseless carriages. Tachankas are carriages with machine guns on them. Why not simply put machine guns on an automobile? This would bring multiple benefits - they could be faster, they can haul more ammo with them, they can be modified to be able to swing the machine gun 360 degrees instead of being limited to the rear of the vehicle, and most importantly - with a motor driving the vehicle instead of horses - they could afford to be made heavier by adding armor. Ashinara produced enough steel and guns to outfit such Armored Cars, however the cars themselves - Ashinara had no automobile industry. Neither did Ashinara have much in terms of fuel. They would have to import the cars. Importing cars and outfitting them with armor and armament was projected to be significantly cheaper - and more efficient in terms of upkeep - than importing tankettes.
The obvious choice to go to for a deal would be UKUG - however the recent silver moratorium made the prospect of such a deal uncertain. Looking who to turn to, the choice fell on Diria. This would also allow to explore and experiment with an alternative fuel source - oil-based gasoline and diesel.
Thus, an urgent letter, delivered by the fastest ship in Ashinara's possession, would be delivered to the Dirian ministry of foreign affairs.
To the esteemed leaders and representatives of the Dirian Federation.
The Hetmanate of Ashinara is looking to expand it's outreach to the world in efforts to modernize, and would like to discuss a trade deal pertaining to the purchase of automobiles and fuel.
With greatest of respects,
Office of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ashinara,
Secretary Simon te Hovetar
