Nevarra-Amali Relations
Amali and Nevarra maintain many bilateral agreements ranging from trade and investments to scientific exploration to military exercises along the Verak-Nevarra-Amali borders. The two consider each other ancient and ancestral allies through the Great Troubles and the Collapse of Verak, leading to very close relations with one another.
History
Amalian and Nevarran relations go back nearly one thousand years, to the time of the Lijone Republic and during the Nevarran Horde Incursions into Verak. Nevarra was one of the first nations to recognize the independence of Amali from Veark, owing to the regional locale, and Amali has consistently maintained diplomatic relations with Nevarra through its various governmental changes. Relations further improved during the massive investment and development in the Arid Railroad, along with the help of Koi engineers to develop a train capable of long distance travel directly through the Granuras Desert, formally linking Amali through only a singular nation to the Staol Trade Network.
Kingdom of Amali (1098 - 1199)
During the Bay Revolutions, the territory that would become Amali was rife with revolts and riots, culminating in the Psymna Revolt that established Queen Aristotelis Metraki and the Metraki Dynasty as the sovereign rulers of the region. To supplement her forces, Aristotelis hired Amenmerian soldiers to help train and fight in her war, offering both land and money for those who came to aid her cause. The Amenmeri Empire also helped fund such expeditions, seeing an advantage to the massive empire finally collapse and allowing it to consolidate in peace.
During the period of the Kingdom, Amali and Amenmeri interacted mainly through trade. The two maintained healthy relations, as there was little permanent settlers between the two, with Amenmeri's vaults helping to establish Amali as one of the more powerful kingdoms in the Eastern region. Most of the financing for the kingdom's wars came from Amenmeri, while domestic funds raised went back into the nation's continued development.
Republic of Amali (1200 - Now)
c. 1200 - c. 1360
In the latter half of the 12th Century, both Kingdoms would experience massive troubles regarding their government's legitimacy. The Kingdom of Amali was replaced relatively quickly, through two successions of government, while Amenmeri's revolution would be much longer than that of Amali's. However, after the rise of the Nevarran Empire, their diplomatic relations came into question due to the outward hostility to humans. The Republic's fears over a potential invasion grew quickly, leading to the rapid expansion through the medieval times, and desires to maintain full independence from the new Empire's financial control.
The two maintained largely cursory relations, only ever sending missives when necessary and establishing Diplomatic Housing in the mid 14th Century. However, relations were further strained due to Nevarran missionaries entering the nation being highly aggressive for conversion and proselytizing. Many missionaries that pushed these conversions, and many attempted to forcibly convert children without consent of the parents, were run out of the nation. Several notable priests, however, were executed by anti-Catelic gangs, with several having been executed for the mere fear of the priest attempting to do such acts.
The early medieval period was thus marked by an almost Cold War-esque tension, as Nevarra lacked the military strength post civil war to invade and Amali lacked the materials to traverse the Granuras Desert. Thus, both left each other to their own devices.
Later 14th Century - 16th Century
The later 14th and 15th Centuries were marked with attempts to bridge the gaps formed in the early medieval period, with varying degrees of success. In the end, the attempts mended much of the damage wrought by the priests, Schism, and first Emperor of Nevarra. Catelicism reorganizing into a more passive and friendly religion, offering to integrate into societies, through philosophical and religious debates establishing it as the de jure canon over the prior centuries' "allow the faith to be." The 16th Century was marked by increased cooperation in terms of trade and a massive exchange of the now uniquely-different cultures, particularly because of the lack of trade in the sub-200 prior years. The increased trade lead to an explosion of technical creations and philosophical ideas.
17th Century - 18th Century
The 1600s marked one of the largest changes in the southern half's history: the arrival of staol. Nevarra, being closer to Koi, was one of the first nations to enjoy the benefits of Staol. Amali imported most of their staol from Nevarran markets, attempting to see what benefits it would bring. In the First Affirmation War, Amali saw more decisive victories in battles that had been funded by Staol, however the limited spread of the material meant it was not guaranteed for success. Amali did, in the end, sign the Staol Trade Treaty as the civil economy boosted tremendously from the energy-dense material.
19th Century - 20th Century
In the early 1800s, the government of Amali approached the government of Nevarra about developing a more direct staol line between Koi and Amali, cutting down on the delivery time of staol as it originally only could pass around the coast. In a multi-lateral meeting between Nevarra, Amali, and Koi, a new line was devised and staol engine created to more efficiently traverse the Granuras deserts; reducing the reliance on water and allowing much further traversals. In the mid 1800s, two more lines were approved and developed over the course of the remaining decades of the 19th Century. As of now, Nevarra and Amali jointly maintain the line's resupply points.
Marked with now uncertain fate of the continent, with the 1907 Hawaii War (and increasing tensions in Granuras regarding the imperial power), increasing militarization of the Entente and Sovereign Union, and the pressing demands of the Commonwealth of Granuras to join, Amali and Nevarra have grown closer to further their mutual cooperation. Several treaties were signed and created to make it easier for scientific ideas and technology to pass between the two, hoping to foster further scientific progress. Several high profile newspapers in Amali have also spread rumors about closer economic ties with Nevarra, potentially in the future, however reports are unconfirmed.
